Dena Meeshenow Obituary

Dena Rose Meeshenow, 29 years young, of Minneapolis, Minnesota passed away unexpectedly in her home on Wednesday, February 7, 2018.  She was born in Bemidji, MN on March 8, 1988 to Deanna Meeshenow and Anthony Strong.

Dena grew up in Cass Lake and attended Cass Lake-Bena School until she was 12 years old, when she moved to Minneapolis.  She loved spending time with her family and friends.  Dena enjoyed dancing at pow-wows and going to the casino to hang out with her friends.  She will be missed by many.

Family that welcomes Dena to the spirit world are her grandparents; Violet “Vye” Rose (Feather) Roy, Fredrick “Fred” Robert White, Scotty R. Meeshenow, Sr. and Geepy Strong, great grandparents; Cordelia Feather and Joseph Spears, great aunt and uncle; Jane Blue and Francis “Banjo” Wayne Feather, aunt and uncles; Scotty R. Meeshenow, Jr., Gary Strong and Choppie and Carol Strong, cousin; Michael “Emjay” James Littlewolf, brother-in-law; Tonio Weaver and numerous other aunties, uncles and cousins.

Those she leaves behind to cherish her memory are her mother and step-father; Deanna Meeshenow and Daniel McKenzie, Sr., her father; Anthony Strong, children; Denaiya, Arianna, Michela and Aiyana Fineday, her significant other; Franklin Fineday, Jr., brothers; Daniel McKenzie, Jr., Joseph Littlewolf, Florentino Mialma-Alarcon, Elias Miranda, Trevin Atkinson, Bee Boswell, Alexander Miranda, Eric White and Kevin Jackson, sisters; Roberta “Baby Berta” McKenzie, Danielle (Will) McKenzie, Marissa Feather and Shay-Leigh Hanks, grandparents; Roberta and Harold “Paddy Joe” Jones, several other relatives and many friends.

An overnight wake for Dena will begin at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, February 11th at the Veterans Memorial Building in Cass Lake, MN.  She will then travel to the Redby Community Center in Redby, MN for a second overnight wake that will begin at 12:00 p.m., Monday, February 12th and continue there until her traditional service at 12:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 13th, 2018.  Allen Hardy will be her Spiritual Advisor.  Pallbearers for Dena will be Daniel McKenzie, Jr., Robert Meeshenow, Dominic Meeshenow, Sr., Kevin Jackson, Franklin Fineday, Jr., Armondo Lopez and Scotty Roy, Sr.  Alternate pallbearers are Clarissa Strong, Sheri Clark, Alexander Miranda, Elias Miranda and Darrell Waybenaise.  Her honorary pallbearers are her daughters; Denaiya, Arianna, Michela and Aiyana, Berta “Baby Berta” McKenzie, Shay-Leigh Hanks, Melissa Crow, Negra Lopez and all her nieces and nephews.  Interment will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery at Red Lake, MN following her traditional services on Tuesday.
