George Wilford King, “Ogichidaa” which means “Warrior”, age 87, of the Migizii Clan and Red Lake, Minnesota began his journey to the spirit world on Monday, March 5, 2018 from Sanford Hospital in Bemidji, MN with his family by his side. He was born the son of William and Emma (Barrett) King on December 3, 1930 in Red Lake, MN.
George lived in Red Lake most of his life. He was a very proud father. He served in the Korean War, where his wounds earned him a Purple Heart and Bronze Star and yet he cared for and raised his children on his own. In his younger days, he was an avid trapper, hunter and fisherman. He liked his weekend trips to the casino. George loved to spend time with his Judy and family. He had many stories to tell, especially after a few Bud Lights. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Family that George is reunited with are his wife; Mary Louise Northrup-King, sons; George King, Jr. and Darryl King, parents; William and Emma King, brothers; Adolph, Paul and Robert King, sisters; Helen Needham, Anna Vinge and Ethel Sorenson, great granddaughter; Tre’Ahna Louise King and grandson; Wes King.
Those he leaves behind to cherish his memory are his daughters; Beverly King of Bemidji, Annette King of Red Lake, Cynthia King of Red Lake and Norma Teague of Bemidji, brother; James King, Sr. of Red Lake, special companion; Judy Brummond, special granddaughter; Georgina King-Neadeau, grandchildren; Wayne Jr., Lila, Kelli, Teanna, Olive, Tammi, Cory, Charisma, Kareen, Jasmine, Ricky and Emma, 24 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A wake for George will begin 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 8th and continue until his 11:00 a.m., funeral service on Saturday, March 10th all being held at the Red Lake Community Center in Red Lake, MN. Father Jerry Rogers will officiate. Pallbearers for George are Brian King, Robert King, Mark Vinge, James King, Jr., Bob Needham, Michael Iceman, James King, Ed Iceman, Darwin Sumner, Ducker Kelly and William Morrison. His honorary pallbearers are Georgina King-Neadeau, Teanna Pemberton, Olive Beaulieu, Tammi Beaulieu, Kelli St. Germaine, Lila St. Germaine, Wendy Jourdain, Sylvia Branchaud, Wayne St. Germaine, Aiden Kappeler, Gage King, Gavin King, Mylen Brummond, Tre Brummond, Andy Neadeau, Justin Jourdain, Ronald Branchaud and Joshua L. Neadeau. Interment will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery following his Saturday service.
