Hazel Angeline (Reese) Nordmarken

Hazel Angeline Nordmarken, age 88, of Walker, MN passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at the Sanford Hospital in Fargo with her loving family by her side.

Hazel was born in Onigum on Saturday, January 18, 1936, the daughter of Peter and Margaret (Gould) Reese.  She grew up in the Onigum area until moving with her family to south Minneapolis.  She would spend some of her time there until moving back to Onigum where she would continue to raise her own family.  Hazel always fought for and protected her family.  She was a true matriarch not only to her children, but also her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Hazel liked gambling, going out to eat, playing bingo and going to pow-wows where she loved to participate in food tasting.  Unofficially she was an official fry bread inspector.  During the earlier years Hazel and her husband loved to bowl and they collected many trophies over their time.  Hazel’s quite smile filled with silent laughter will be missed by her family and all who knew her.

The family that Hazel joins again is an infant son, husband; Charles Nordmarken, daughters; Kari Nordmarken and Kim Brown, sons; Robert Brown and Walter Brown, grandchildren; Jessie, Donna and Corey, sisters; Jerry Wilson and Elizabeth Reese, brother; Sam Reese, Sr., other family, and friends.

Those she leaves behind to cherish her memory are her children; Krisi and Jay, thirteen grandchildren; Jordan, Jasmine, Justin, Neri, Tyler, Jay, Jr., Isaiah, Jae Marie, Roxi, Bob, Jr., Brandon, Michelle, and T.J., numerous great grandchildren, one brother; Frank (Linda) Reese.

A private family wake will be held at Northern Peace Funeral Home from 8:30 a.m. until the 10:00 a.m. service held at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Walker, MN, on Monday, April 1, 2024.  Pallbearers helping to lay Hazel to rest are Justin Nordmarken, Isaiah Nordmarken, T.J. Brown, Areecio Brown, Angelo Reese, and Jordan Belcourt.  Honorary pallbearers will be all of Hazel’s grand, great grand, and great-great grandchildren.  Interment will be held at Old Agency Catholic Cemetery in Onigum following the service.  Lunch will be held at the Onigum Community Center following burial at the cemetery.
