Alice Elizabeth Gordon
November 14, 1927 – November 3, 2018
Alice Elizabeth was born on November 14, 1927 to John and Lula (Brewer) Meuth in Bexar County Texas. At the age of 12 she was adopted by Sidney McLeod after his marriage to Lula and moved to southern Minnesota where she graduated from high school in Fulda.
On October 10, 1946 she married Erwin Gordon and they lived on his family farm near Brewster. They raised five children: Lois, Linda, Shirley, Jeffrey, and Sheila. Alice enjoyed reading, walking, and gardening and was an excellent cook and baker. She also drove tractor, stacked hay, and helped tend to the livestock.
After Erwin’s passing Alice moved off the family farm to a home on Lake Okabena in Worthington where she resided until 2010. She spent her winters in Meza, AZ where she and her friends enjoyed attending social events at the clubhouse, going to flea markets and traveling. She moved to May Creek Senior Living Campus in Walker in 2010 and to Heritage House in Pequot Lakes in 2014. She was a past member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Brewster and Hope Lutheran Church in Walker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Erwin (1988) and daughter Sheila (2008). She is survived by children Lois (Tim) Murphy of Mankato, Linda (Tim) Gilsrud of Walker, Shirley (Jerry) Jessen of Port Saint Joe, Florida, and Jeff (Jackie) Gordon of Bondurant, IA, grandchildren Chris, Ben, and Megan Murphy, Jennifer (Eric) Ristad and Nathan (Jessica) Gilsrud, great-grandchildren Jacob, Hannah, and Brandon Ristad, Emily and Alayna Gilsrud, and Morgan Murphy.
The family wishes to thank Heartland Hospice for their care and support and Northern Peace Funeral Home for final arrangements.
A private family inurnment will be scheduled at a later date at the Lutheran Cemetery in Brewster, MN . The family requests memorials be given to Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, 86549 320th Ave, Brewster, MN 56119 or Hope Lutheran Church Endowment Fund at PO Box 506, Walker, MN 56484.
