Bert LeRoy Carlson

November 28, 1928 ~ December 8, 2018 (age 90)

Bert LeRoy Carlson, age 90, of Walker, passed away on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at the May Creek Campus in Walker with his family by his side.  He was born on November 28, 1928 in Anoka, MN the son of LeRoy and Viola (Wanstrom) Carlson.

Bert grew up in Anoka and graduated from Anoka High School.  Following school, he attended and graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College in Saint Peter, MN.  Bert joined the Intelligence Unit of the US Army and served for two years before returning home to Anoka.  He was a car dealer for the family business, Main Motors in Anoka.  Bert met the love of his life; Pat Jahnke and the two were united in marriage in 1954 in Brainerd, MN.  They remained in Anoka until 1988 when they moved to the Walker area.  Bert as many know, was very active in his community and gave a lot of his time volunteering at Hope Lutheran Church, Rotary and Meals on Wheels.  He would help whenever anyone needed him.  He loved going to his cabin in Ely, Golfing, hunting, fishing and gardening.  Bert was a wonderful father, grandfather and great grandfather.  He will be missed by all who knew him.

Family that Bert is reunited with are his beloved wife Pat Carlson and his parents LeRoy and Viola Carlson.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are children; Brian Carlson of Lindstrom, Rebecca (Robert) Johnson of Bemidji and Roberta (Mike) Schermerhorn of Mound, grandchildren; Amanda (Adam) Alissa, Matthew, Annika, Hayley (James), Joshua, JonPaul, Noel (Chris), Benjamin, Jenna, Jeffrey, Nathan and Azure (Aaron), 10 great grandchildren, other family members and many friends.

A celebration of Bert’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 14, 2018 at Hope Lutheran Church in Walker with Rev. Matt McWaters officiating.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service also at the church.  Honorary Pallbearers for Bert will be all his grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Inurnment will be held later in the spring.

In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Hope Lutheran Church P.O. Box 506, Walker, MN. 56484 and the Walker Meals on Wheels program.

Bert’s family would like to thank May Creek and their staff for all the wonderful care that they gave to their dad.
