Constance (Connie Ross) Brandenburg, 79, of Naytahwaush, passed away peacefully at The Episcopal Church Home in St. Paul, MN on November 19, 2019, surrounded by family and close friends.
Thank you for joining us in the farewell of our mother, grandmother, sister, auntie, cousin, mentor and Warrior.
Connie was born in Cass Lake, MN to Edward Ross and Alice Hutchinson. She was the first in her family to attend college. Connie dedicated her life to the community: Neighborhood Assistance Officer, EMT, assisting in the passing of the Minnesota Indian Preservation Act, the Indian Child Welfare Act, Foster Mother, Kinship caregiver, Case Manager at Minnesota Indian Women’s Resource Center, and caring directly to children in her role at Ain Dah Yung. She lived for fishing, Smarties, Lemon Meringue, trips to the Casino, and Powwows. She enjoyed spending time with her daughters, sons and grandchildren, and extended family.
She was a mentor to many. She will be greatly missed by all the people that she welcomed into her life, home and took under her wing.
Connie is survived by Daughters: Renee (Jeff), Debbie, Darcy (Tad). Daughter-in-Law: Kristi (tom). Grandchildren: Sable (Rick), Samantha (Ryan), Bobbi (Nick), Jerry (Cassie), Soleena, and Owen. Great-Grandchild: Emma Rose. Special Family: Marilyn, Susan, Marge, Pam, Markie, Hosie, Jayson, Steve, Mag, Chaimie, Tabi, Dani, Penda and Bonnie. Special Nieces: Vicki, Julie, Donna, and Lonni. Great Niece: Parish. As well as numerous relatives, adopted children, foster children and special friends.
Preceded in death by Spouse: Stanley, Son: VonStanley, Parents: Edward & Alice, Sisters: Bea & Jewel, Brothers: Gene & Don. Niece: Lorri, and many other relatives.
Please forgive us if we failed to mention your relationship with Connie. We most certainly will never forget who you are and the ways you have touched our family. We will always be here for you. This is not the end; it’s the beginning of our healing together.
Memorial gathering on Saturday, November 23, 2019 at Church of Gichitwaa Kateri, from 11-3 pm. Lunch will be served at 1 pm. Traditional all-night wake to follow in Naytahwaush, MN. Sunday November 24, 2019, Connie will be laid to rest before sundown on Sunday.
