David James Jones

David James Jones age 77, of Walker, passed away on Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at May Creek Assisted Living in Walker.  He was born on June 16, 1941 in Walker the son of Lawrence and Erma (Robbins) Jones. 

David grew up around cars and motorcycles continuing that passion throughout his younger years, racing cars and always on the go.  Early on in his life he worked for the Singer Sewing Machine Company in Park Rapids as a technician, then at the Munsingwear Company in the cities. They then moved back to Walker, where David worked at the local hardware store and as a police officer, firefighter and EMT for the City of Walker.

Later they traveled throughout the country, working as a plumbing contractor for a hotel development company. After their travels, they returned home to Walker to help run Inn at The Y Restaurant and Motel and later purchased Mallory Plumbing & Heating, renaming it Jones Plumbing & Heating, which they ran for many years.  Following the plumbing and heating business, David moved to Kindred, ND where he operated The Stable Bar.  He would later move to Park Rapids and eventually, Walker.

Over the years, he was a member of the Eagles Club, Walker Lions, and Park Rapids American Legion. Anyone that knew David knew he liked to keep busy, work, joke around, laugh, play cards, drive back roads, John Wayne movies, classic country music, and spending time with family and friends.  He will be missed by all that knew him.

The family that David joins again are his parents, Lawrence and Erma; two brothers, Richard and Lyle Jones.     

Those he leaves behind to cherish his memory are his children, Terri (Jay) Fagerman of Walker, Tony (Bobbi) Jones of Park Rapids, and Amy (Jon) Knowles of Walker; sisters, Pat (Dan) Long of Brainerd, Babe Church of Pillager, Donna (Woody) Woodford of Grand Rapids, and LeeAnn (John) Saddler of Grand Rapids; grandchildren, Jerad (Paige), Jamie (Jameson), Joshua (Candy), Whitney (Adam) Jalyn and Madeline; seven great grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.

A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, August 30, 2018 from 5 to 8 p.m. with a 7:30 service all held at the Northern Peace Funeral Home, 114 Tianna Drive, Walker, MN.  Inurnment will be held in the Evergreen Cemetery in Walker at a later date.
