Edward Lammers III Obituary

Edward (Ed) August Lammers III, of Longville, Minnesota passed away unexpectedly on September 30, 2019.  He was born in Conway, Arkansas on Feb 8, 1950.  He joked that he escaped from AR early when he was adopted by his loving parents Edward and Mary (Baker) Lammers in Dec 1952.  He attended his first couple of years of school in Beloit, WI.  Then his family lived in Europe and he attended schools in Italy and Switzerland until they returned to ‘home’ and good friends in Beloit in Ed’s junior year of high school.  He graduated from Beloit Catholic in 1968.  In 1972, he graduated from St. Thomas College where he made life-long friends and earned the nickname “Cinci”.  He married Marcy Sonnen in 1972.  His pride and joy, Edward IV, was born in 1974.  The couple later divorced.  In 1986 he married the love of his life, Dorothy Ann McMahon.  They lived in Minnetonka, but their lives revolved around the ‘cabin’ near Longville which was filled with friends and family every weekend.  In 1996 they fled the big city and bought the Sunrise Café in Longville.  Ed hated the up-north winters, so for the last 15 years they have been snowbirds, wintering in Venice, FL.

Ed was born a salesman.  He could sell anything!  Ed worked in sales for years, except for his stint as owner and chief coffee pourer at the Sunrise Café and bartending at the Corral (the “Ed show”).   Most of his career, he sold business forms and specialty advertising.  For the last 17 years, Ed hung his hat at Lakeland Promotions in Longville.  It wasn’t ‘work’ to him – it was all about the people.

Ed made friends everywhere he stopped in life.  He had many great friends from high school, college and his career days.  He considered his son’s friends and nephews' friends to be his own.  Ed loved his Longville buddies.  He was irreverent - handing out nicknames and insults.  He enjoyed “playing golf" with friends.  Ed claimed he could “mess up” anyone’s game.

He loved his large family, especially his nieces and nephews and their children.  Ed loved all children!  The highlight of his summer was volunteering at the prize table at the Turtle Races every Wednesday. Children gravitated to him.  They identified him as a kindred spirit – or perhaps just a tall child!

Ed loved life and lived it fully.  He played hard, he laughed often, and he enjoyed making people laugh.  He lived with the certainty that you can’t run out of love.  He gave it away freely, as there was always more love to go around.  He will be missed by family and friends all over the world.

Ed is survived by his wife, Dorothy; his son, Ed IV; his mother-in-law, Delphine McMahon; many sister-in-law’s and brother-in-law’s, numerous godchildren, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and his cats, Tigger and Baby Girl.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Andrew Lammers.

A celebration of Ed’s life will begin at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 5th, 2019 at St. Edward’s Catholic Church, 4905 Hwy 84, Longville, MN 56655.  A one-hour visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m.  Father Keith Bertram will officiate.  Ed’s honorary urnbearers will be all his godchildren, nieces and nephews.  Inurnment will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity.

Ed’s care has been entrusted to Northern Peace Funeral Home of Walker.  Online condolences for the family may be left at www.northernpeace.com
