Joseph Henry Benais

Joseph “Joe” Henry Benais, 73, of the Bear Clan and Red Lake, Minnesota began his journey to the spirit world on Wednesday, August 14th, 2019 from the Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, ND.  He was born the son of Louise and Henry Benais on November 1, 1945 in Red Lake, MN.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of husband, brother, grandpa, uncle, cousin and friend, Joe.  On July 22nd of 2002, Joe married his love Doris Nelson.  He enjoyed going to the casino, taking short walks, driving around and spending time with his family and friends.  His sudden departure leaves our heart lonely and sad.

Family welcoming Joe to the spirit world are his parents, Louise and Henry Benais; brothers, Lenard, Alfred and James Benais, William and James Frog; sister, Verna RedEagle, Mary Jane Cloud and Jenny Frog; nephews, Delvin Benais; nieces, Beverly Tait and Thelma RedEagle and several other relatives.

He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Doris Benais; brother, Harvey Benais; sister, Grace Nass; special granddaughter, Symphony “Medjii” Strong, other grandchildren, nieces, nephews, many more family members and friends.

Wake services for Joe will begin at 12:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 20th and continue until his 11:00 a.m. traditional service on Wednesday, August 21st all being held at the New Little Rock Community Center in Red Lake, MN.  Allen Hardy will be his Spiritual Advisor.  Helping to lay Joe to rest are Simon Wiess, Clifford “Chip” Vasley, Cease Spears, Damian Strong, Darwin Strong, Sr. and James Cobenais, Sr.  His honorary pallbearers are all his family and friends.  Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery at Red Lake, MN.
