Kay Bangerter Obituary

Kay Jeanne (Turner) Bangerter, age 80, of Bemidji, Minnesota was taken home by her Lord and Savior on Saturday, December 8, 2018 from Sanford Hospital in Bemidji, MN.  She was born September 26, 1938 in Omaha, NE, the daughter of Neal and Nellie (Nicholson) Turner.

Together with her family, Kay lived in Omaha for the first five years of her life.  Her father’s job transferred him and his family back and forth between Chicago, IL and Lincoln, NE over the next seven years.  Kay started kindergarten in Chicago and graduated from Lincoln North East High School.  She went on to study at the University of Nebraska and graduated in 1960 with a major in Speech Pathology.

Kay met and married Ted Dewey in 1959 and made their home in Omaha.  Together they had four beautiful children; Blair in 1961, Karyn in 1963, Brad in 1964 and Amy in 1968.  In 1987, they moved to Minnesota where she has resided since.  Kay met David through the Walker Art Gallery and Hope Lutheran Church in 1998 and in 2000 they were married.  David had three children and 10 grandchildren of his own when they met, she also had 8 grandchildren.  So, for the first month they were busy just learning about each others children, their spouses, their children and the extended families.  Since that time, they now have 20 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren, all of whom they cherished together.

Some of Kay’s favorite interests were sewing, playing bridge, bowling, teaching, entertaining, church activities, P.E.O and her Alpha Chi Omega Sorority.  She also loved following the activities of her children were a part of: swimming, softball, baseball, wrestling and their experiences in other countries.  Kay enjoyed spending as much time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren as possible, they were the joy of her life.

And, of course, she has always remained a Big Red Fan from the University of Nebraska…

Family that Kay has been reunited with are her parents, Neal and Nellie Turner.

Those she leaves behind to carry on her legacy are her husband; David Bangerter of Bemidji, daughters; Karyn (Jim) Flesch of Breezy Point, Blair (Mark) Driscoll of Hastings, NE, Amy (Patrick) Hardesty of Lincoln, NE Renee (Scott) Rosa of Buyck and Traci (Greg) Dravis of Apple Valley, sons; Brad Dewey of Hackensack and Dean (Krista) Bangerter of Buyck, sister; Colleen (Jim) Demuth of Fort Collins, CO, 20 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.
