Mary Rose (Johns) Skinaway, 89, Ogimaa Giizhigook (Queen of the Sky) Bear Clan of Red Lake began her journey to the Spirit World on July 14, 2017 at Sanford Bemidji, MN. She was born on September 2, 1927 in Red Lake, MN the daughter of Frank Johns and Philomene Lajeunesse.

A wake will start at 1pm on Sunday, July 16, 2017 at the Red Lake Center in Red Lake, MN until the funeral on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at 1pm at St. Mary Catholic Church Red Lake, MN, Father Jerry Rogers Officiating.  Burial by cremation at later date.

Those helping to lay her to rest casket bearers: Franklin Skinaway, Sr., Royce Graves, III, Virgil Skinaway, Jr., Bruce Johns, Donald Brun, Jr., and Brian Holthusen, Jr., Alternates: Brian Holthusen, Sr., Jim Grimes, Donald Grimes, Gary Grimes, and Tristin Skinaway. Honorary casket bearers: Gladys Saragoosa, Rosalie Hill, Ruth Beaulieu, Gail Stillday, Lorraine Chaboyea, Priscilla Stately, Lorraine Sayers, Gloria Skinaway, Melody Koste, Brenda Johns, Phyllis Sumner, and Alverda “Babe” Strong.

Mary Rose grew up in Red Lake, MN. She married David Skinaway on March 9, 1967 in Bagley, MN. She worked at Honeywell in Mpls., MN for few years then moved back to Red Lake and worked at Control Data in Bemidji for several years.  She worked as a Senior Companion for few years.  She like doing crossword puzzles, word search, going out to the outlet, going for long rides, sitting at the lake, and going to the casino to play keno.   She enjoyed going to pow wows. She always watched and waited for the eagles to come back to the nest near her home every year.

She was survived by daughters, Diana (Royce Jr.) Graves and Valerie (Brian Sr.) Johns of Red Lake, sons, David Skinaway, Jr., Ronald (Gidget) Skinaway, Sr., Virgil (Kelly) Skinaway, Sr., Quintin (Brenda) Johns, Franklin (Carisa) Skinaway all of Red Lake, sister Geraldine (Donald Sr.) Brun of Red Lake, brothers: Joseph Johns and Lawrence (Judith) Lajeunesse of Red Lake and Arnold Lajeunesse of Bemidji, 21 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by husband David Skinaway, Sr., sons, Lowell Skinaway and infant son, her parents Frank and Philomene Johns, sisters Susan Spears, Evelyn (Evie) Spears, Anna Johns, Ramona Lajeunesse, Elizabeth Lajeunesse, and Doris Siddens. Brothers: Simon (Zeke) Johns, Phillip Johns, Walter Lajeunesse, and Edward James Lajeunesse.
