Michael Allen Smith, age 55, of Cass Lake, Minnesota began his spiritual journey on May 18, 2017 from Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota.  He was born September 27, 1961 in Minneapolis, MN to Donald Joseph Smith and Loretta Mae (Aitkin) Smith.

Michael is one of seven children who, at a young age, were separated from each other.  When Michael was old enough to understand the family dynamics, he started searching for his siblings and fought very hard, even through his illness, to keep his family together.  Michael was a very outgoing person who loved people. He was a very good man and when he loved you, he loved you wholly.  He loved to watch movies especially “Burlesque” with Cher.  Michael loved to laugh and make others laugh and he will be missed tremendously by all his family and friends.

The family that welcomes Michael to the Spirit World are his parents; Loretta and Donald Smith, and “Mom” Celeste Larson, daughter; Ronnie Martin, sisters; Donalda “Bebe” and Deborah “Sissy” Smith, aunt; Cindy Day, niece; Myra “Tiny” Smith and several other relatives.

Michael is survived by his significant other of 30 years; Tina Martin, son; Peter Martin, brothers; Greg and Dennis Smith, sisters; Lucy “Lucky” (Smith) Council and Vicki “Mouse” (Smith) Swanson, special sister; Tess Eichens, special brother; John Iverson, aunties; Georgianna “Auntie Babe” Feigum and Phyllis Day, uncles; John Feigum and Jimmy Day, Sr. and many other family members and friends

A wake for Michael will begin at 9:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 24rd and continue until his 12:00 p.m. traditional service on Thursday, May 25th all being held at the Facility Center in Cass Lake, Minnesota. Spiritual Advisors for Michael are Wally Humphries and Jimmy Day.  Pallbearers will be Peter Martin, Michael Martin, Jr., Fred Martin, Arrione Martin, Yonny Cortes, Evan Cortes and John Iverson.  His honorary pallbearers are Roger Martin, Michael Martin, Sr., John Martin, Jr., Cassius Council, Damien Smith, Arthur Wright, Sr., Casey (Smith) Cortes, Jamie Smith, Toni Smith and John Swanson and all his nieces and nephews.  Interment will be in the Old Agency Catholic Cemetery at Old Agency, Minnesota following his service on Thursday.
