Michael Charles Tibbetts, Sr., age 68, of Federal Dam, Minnesota journeyed home on Friday, July 12th, 2019. Mike was born via home birth in Bena to Wayne and Claire (Lyons) Tibbetts on October 19th, 1950. He grew up in Bena, attending school at Cass Lake-Bena Schools. He furthered his education at Dunwoody College getting a degree in auto mechanics. After return home, he married Deborah Campbell on July 14th, 1972. They made their home in Bena where they raised their family.
Mike was an avid outdoorsman. His favorite outdoor pastimes were hunting and trapping, but he could also be found fishing, ricing, or just enjoying the outdoors. Mike also had a love for stock cars which he drove and worked on during his employment at Chuck Reimer’s garage. Mike had a serious passion for his muscle cars, with his greatest pride going to his ’71 Chevelle SS with a 454. He liked spending time at the casino playing the slots and joking with his grandchildren. Mike enjoyed his 16 years bartending at Big Winnie Bar. He managed Willow Beach Supper Club and then gained employment through Leech Lake Housing Authority from which he retired in 2017. Mike was known for having a good sense of humor and being a kind and hardworking man who always had a story or a joke to tell.
Family that Mike is reunited with are his daughter; Billie Jean Tibbetts, parents; Wayne and Claire Tibbetts, brother; Allen Tibbetts, sister; MaryAnn Tibbetts, aunties; Peggy, Margaret, Joyce and Leona Lyons, uncles; Billy Boy, Ernest, Reay and Aubrey Lyons and grandparents; Bill and Lucy Lyons.
Those he leaves behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 47 years; Deborah of Federal Dam, sons; Michael (Kati) and Cameron both of Bena, daughters; Jessica (Lou), Sara (Keith) and Nicole all of Bena, sisters; Dinah (Steve) Stangel and Helen Tibbetts, grandchildren; Rebecca (Rob), Alyssa, Gage, Makayla, Rob, Steph, Leo, Danielle, Dante, Dakotah, George, Allie, Moggie, Kaden, Kyler and Rian, great grandchildren; Marcela, Marie, Mya, Brian and Tawney, numerous other relatives and many friends.
A wake for Mike will begin at 5:00 p.m., Thursday, July 18th and continue until his 10:00 a.m. funeral service on Saturday, July 20th all being held at the Bena Community Center in Bena, MN. Helping to lay Mike to rest are Donald Geving, Hubert Bramen, Jr., Chuck Bobolink, Amos LaDuke, Patrick McClimek and Roger Bryant. His honorary pallbearers are all his grandkids and great grandkids, Leech Lake Housing Employees, Steve White, Gene Northbird, Clem May, Dana Bonga, Billy Tibbetts and Richard Schulman. Interment will be in the Lakeview Cemetery at Bena, MN following his Saturday services.
