Patrick Louis Staples

Patrick Louis Staples, age 70, “Ogichidaa Bines” which means “Warrior Thunderbird” of the Wolf Clan and Laporte, Minnesota began his journey to the spirit world from his home on Tuesday, July 9th, 2019, with his family by his side.  Patrick was one of 11 children born to Margaret (Charwood) and Charles Staples, Sr.  He was born in Cass Lake, MN on December 30, 1948.

Patrick was born in Cass Lake, MN and was the 10th child of 11.  He was educated in Cass Lake and Bemidji, Bemidji College and Vo-tech.  In 1967, Patrick enlisted into the United States Navy.  He moved to Minneapolis in 1968, where he met Carol on his 20th birthday.  They later started a family of three girls.  Patrick and Carol moved back to the Cass Lake area in 1994 where he loved to spend time with his family.  He enjoyed playing cards and Yahtzee and his casino time to play Jacks or Better Draw Poker.  Patrick kept busy playing tennis, softball and basketball.  He was an excellent hunter, with an excellent shot, and fisherman but his most special times was the time he spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.  His grandbabies were his world!!

He is welcomed to the spirit world by his parents; Margaret and Charles Staples, Sr., and his siblings; Betty Staples, Delores Morrow, Charles Staples, Jr., Catherine Adams, Cecilia Drouillard, Roberta Staples-Wind, Richard Staples Naomi Countryman and Samuel Staples, Sr.

Patrick leaves behind his significant other of many years; Carol Staples, daughters; Patricia (Kevin) Staples, Roberta (Wayne Sr.) Norby and Robyn (Marlon) Staples all of Cass Lake and Rebecca Larson of Minneapolis, a sister; Barbara (Jim) Staples, grandchildren; Maria, Cherelle, Mary, Angela “Bunz”, Savannah, Vanessa, Kayla Boo, Joseph, Wayne Jr., Robert, Charles, Kevin Jr., Marlon “Nemo”, Martine, special grandson; Niswi, 19 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, numerous other relatives and friends.

A wake for Patrick will begin at 6:00 p.m., Thursday, July 11th, 2019 and continue until his 12:00 p.m. traditional service on Saturday, July 13th all to be held at the Veteran’s Memorial Building in Cass Lake, MN.  Dylan Adams will be his Spiritual Advisor.  Pallbearers for Patrick will be Joseph Norby, Wayne Norby, Jr., Robert Johnson, Joel Potter, Sr., Louis LaBarge, LaDrake Powell, Sr., Darryl Drouillard and Travis King, Sr.  His honorary pallbearers are all of his grandchildren and great grandchildren, all of his nieces and nephews, as they all were so special to him, Wayne Norby, Sr., Kevin Johnson, Sr., Michael “Julio” Staples, Rick Wilson, Sr., Michael “Moss” Staples, Dave Swanholm, Robin Kelly, Sr., Donald Kelly, Sr., Daniel Kelly, Sr., Charles Kelly, Jr. and Ian Lussier.  Interment will be in the Fairbanks-Staples Cemetery at Cass Lake/Mission, MN following his Saturday services.
