Russell and Margaret K. Porter

Russell K Porter was born December 26, 1936 to Ida Clark and Wayne Porter in White Earth, MN.  He would later join the United States Navy

Margaret K Kingbird (Mindimooye) of the Eagle Clan was born March 1, 1946 to Mary Mosher and Allen Kingbird, Sr. in Ponemah, MN.  She would later go on to teach language and culture at various schools.

Russell and Margaret met in 1967 and began their life together.  Two years later they were married on September 9, 1969 in Minneapolis, MN.  Together they raised two daughters, Sheila and Marsha Porter and in 1984 they moved to Bemidji and made their home there for many years. Russell and Margaret enjoyed their life together, as well they loved spending time with family, friends, and extended family.  Their 19 great grandkids were a big part of joy in their lives, as they liked watching them play and visiting with them.  They also enjoyed going to the casino’s, attending powwows, family gatherings and ceremonies together.

Russell and Margaret are survived by their daughters; Sheila (Donald) and Marsha Porter both of Redby, MN, eight grandkids; Duane Porter, Rick Porter, Ryan Barrett, Gene Barrett, Russell Barrett, Tessa Porter, Tasheena King and Endaanis Porter, 19 great grandchildren and Russell’s sister; Geraldine Porter.

Russell reunites with his parents; Ida Clark and Donald Wayne Porter, brothers; Gene, Pat and Leonard Porter and one great grandson Marcus Porter.

Margaret reunites with her parents; Mary (Mosher) and Allen Kingbird, Sr., sisters; Lucille, Loraine and Florence Kingbird, brothers; Jimmy, Daniel, Delbert, Bruce, Eddie, Calvin, Kenneth and Allen Jr. Kingbird and one great grandson; Marcus Porter.

A wake for Russell and Margaret will begin at 6:00 p.m., Friday, May 31st and continue until their 10:00 a.m. traditional services on Sunday, June 2nd all being held at the Redby Community Center in Redby, MN.  Allen Hardy will be their Spiritual Advisor.  Pallbearers for Russell will be Matt Gordon, Skip Murray, Russell Murray, Pat Porter, Sonny Porter and Fred Porter.  His honorary pallbearers are all his friends and his nieces and nephews.  Pallbearers for Margaret will be Duane Porter, Rick Porter, Ryan Barrett, Gene Barrett, Russell Barrett and Michael Needham.  Her honorary pallbearers are all her Lodge Friends and her nieces and nephews.  Their interment will be in their Family Burial Grounds at Redby, MN following their Sunday services.
