Theresa Rose (Mason) Smith

Theresa Rose Smith, age 80, “Waabanang” which means Morning Star, began her spiritual journey on Friday, August 9, 2019, at the Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, ND, with her family by her side.

Theresa Mason was born on September 26, 1938, the daughter of the late Paul and Gladys (Taylor) Mason.  She was raised and educated in Red Lake, MN, and obtained her certificate as a Certified Nursing Assistant.  She then worked at Bemidji Hospital for 4 years, then in Clearbrook, and finally at the Jourdain Perpich Nursing Home in Red Lake for 19 years.  She was married to Myron Smith and together they raised their 3 children and helped raise 6 grandchildren, Alicia, Dustin, Duane, Jr., Daniel, Delwyn, and Douglas.  In her free time, she enjoyed going to the casino, reading, gardening, praying and watching the Lifetime Channel and CSI shows but most all spending time with her beloved children and grandchildren.

Waiting to greet Theresa on her journey are her husband Myron Smith; parents, Paul Mason and Gladys Beaulieu; brothers, Leo Fairbanks, John Mason, and Paul Mason; sisters, Pauline Teigland, Mary Jane Stillday, Shirley Mason, and Arlene Mason; and grandchildren, Daniel Smith and Justina Nicole (Smith) Stately.

Left here to cherish her memory are her sons, Duane (Sandy) Smith, Sr., and Marlin (Marilee) Smith; daughter, Shirley (Reginald) Smith; 9 grandchildren, special grandson Wayne Fisher-Smith; and 24 great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The wake for Theresa will begin at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, August 13, 2019, at the Red Lake Community Center in Red Lake, MN, and will conclude with her funeral service at 1:00 pm on Thursday, August 15, 2019.  Interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Red Lake, MN.  Father Jerry Rogers will officiate.  Pall bearers will be, Duane Smith, Jr., Douglas Smith, Delwyn Smith, Dustin Jourdain, Gary Teigland, Rodney Stillday, Elijah Cloud, and Wayne Fisher-Smith.  Alternate pall bearers will be Michael Jones, Rickey Mason, Avery Smith, Blayze Cloud, Clayton Smith, and Rodney Lussier.  Honorary pall bearers will be, Mardell Iceman, Bonita Johnson, Tessa Smith, Shayna Smith, Alexzia Smith, Alayna Smith, Heather Stillday, Michelle Strong, Mary Ellen Cook Stillday, Shanea Smith, Sandy Cobenais, Kayln Sargent, Angie Perkins, Becky Inglis, and Debbie Teigland.
