Thomas Sumner Obituary

Thomas “Tom” Peter Sumner, age 60, of Red Lake, Minnesota began his spiritual journey on Friday, July 20, 2018 from the Twin Valley Living Center in Twin Valley, MN surrounded by his loved ones.  He was born in Red Lake, MN on July 1, 1958 to Elizabeth (Sumner) and James Beaulieu, Sr.

Tom grew up and went to school in Red Lake, MN.  After graduating from Red Lake High School in 1976, Tom attended Bemidji State University and studied Accounting.  He worked at the Redby Sawmill, Dudley Logging and was a commercial fisherman.  Tom moved to Minneapolis for 10 years and worked at the Mystic Lake Casino and the Minneapolis Convention Center.  He moved home to the Red Lake area, making his home in the Little Rock area in 1998.  After returning home he worked at the River Road Casino in Thief River Falls for a number of years.  Tom helped raise his grandkids Caleb, Kailow, Maci, Trey, Isaac and Braylon.  Tom enjoyed watching sports, WWE wrestling, throwing darts and playing softball.  He like it so much that he later coached a team of his own, naming it the “Little Rock Hooligans”.  Tom also named his dart team the “Hooligans”.  Tom made friends wherever he went, he was a friendly guy that people enjoyed being around.  He liked going for rides in his truck and spending time with his family, especially his grandkids.   

Family that Tom is reunited with are his father; James Beaulieu, Sr., brother; Emerson Beaulieu, Jr., grandparents; Angeline and Simon Sumner, and Robert and Agnes Beaulieu, and uncles; Richard, Henry, Edward, Myron, Simon Jr. and Douglas Sumner, aunt; Thelma Sumner, nephew; Deland Beaulieu, Sr. and step-father; Douglas J. Cloud.

Tom is survived by his mother Elizabeth “Betty” Beaulieu of Red Lake, his partner of 18 years; Karen Saunders of Red Lake, children; Jon (Trish) and Jessica Auginash of Redby and Teanna Spears of Red Lake, special daughter; Brandi Barrett, step children; Garb, Crystal and Andrew Barrett, sisters; Rita, Melissa and Angela Beaulieu, brothers; Emery, Ger and Jim Beaulieu, aunts; Linda, Jan, Darlene, Diane  and Wanda Cloud, 13 grandchildren; Akira, Amira, Ah’laya Thunder, Jasmine and Jonathan Auginash, Jr., Aundrew Morrison, Caleb Garcia, Isaac and Braylon Raincloud, Maci, Trey and Kailow Barrett, De’layah Martin and one on the way, nieces, nephews, cousins and others relatives.

A wake for Tom will begin at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 25th and continue until his 1:00 p.m., funeral service on Friday, July 27th all being held at the Little Rock Community Center in Red Lake, MN.  Father Jerry Rogers will officiate.  Pallbearers for Tom will be Stuart Sumner, Emery Beaulieu, Richard Sumner, Jr., Daniel Raincloud, Delwyn English, Sr., Andrew Barrett, Dacey Beaulieu and DJ Jackson.  Alternate pallbearers are Randy Cloud and Michael Hayes.  His honorary pallbearers are Pun Sumner, Larry Bellefy, Brian Holthusen, Sr., Delwyn Spears, Sr., Harold Raincloud, Ole Spears, Jim Dudley, Ethel Branchaud, Dawn Branchaud, Brandi Barrett, Keith Sumner, Winona Dudley, Harold Fier, Harlow Spears, the Hooligans Dart Team and the Hooligans Softball Team.  Interment will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery at Red Lake, MN.
