Violet (Kingbird) Cloud

Violet Kingbird Cloud, “Maajiigwabiik” which means “The Growing Woman”, age 81, of Red Lake, MN and the Eagle Clan was born May 16, 1938 on the Red Lake Reservation and died on November 1, 2019 at the Jourdain Perpich Extended Care Facility in Red Lake MN.  Violet attend school in Red Lake, MN.  She was married to Charles Cloud and had 8 children, Royce, Charles, Jr., Theodore, Arthur, Kenneth, Edward, Freda and Doris.  Violet was a happy and friendly woman who opened her doors to many.  She was strong and resourceful.  She fished, trapped, snared and gardened to help Charles feed their family.  She beaded and sewed for her children and grandchildren.  She enjoyed bingo and going to the casino.  She loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. 

She is survived by her son Kenneth and daughters Freda and Doris and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. 

Proceeded in death by her parents, husband Charles and 5 children; Royce, Charles, Jr., Theodore, Arthur and Edward.  She will be missed by family and many friends.

A wake for Violet will begin at 1:00 p.m., Monday, November 4, 2019 and will continue until the 1:00 p.m. service on Wednesday, November 6, 2019, all held at the Boys and Girls Club in Ponemah.  Violet’s nephew Arnold Kingbird will be her spiritual leader.  Pallbearers are Timothy Jones, Travis Jones, Keyshawa Kingbird, Kyle Kingbird, Jr. and Terrance French.  Interment will be held at the Ponemah Point family burial plot in Ponemah following the service on Wednesday.
