Alan Etlar Maas, 87 passed away peacefully at home with family by his side, on April 28, 2025. He was born in Watertown, MN, on April 11, 1938.
Alan attended the U of MN and graduated with a double major in biology and physical education. He taught biology and science at WHS for 33 years. He coached football, basketball, and baseball for 8 years and he was the athletic director for 25 years.
Alan married his childhood sweetheart, Dianne Vinkemeier, on August 11, 1962.
Alan was an avid sportsman, living for the seasons. He loved fishing and was a popular guide on Leech Lake. Alan was inducted int the MN Fishing Hall of Fame and the Fresh Water Hall of Fame.
Alan is survived by his wife, Dianne; daughter, Michelle (Adam) De Vries; two grandchildren, Grant and Gwendolyn.
Alan is preceded in death by two sons, Charles and Douglas Maas; parents, and brother, Dr. Donald Maas.
The Alan Maas family wishes to thank everyone who in so many ways expressed their love and support by giving their time, cards, prayers, and comfort. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Hope’s Endowment Fund or the Walker Food Shelf.
A Celebration of Alan’s Life will be Saturday, May 24, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Hope Luther Church Walker, MN, with Pastor Matthew McWaters officiating.
