Anna Vanessa “Bineshiinh” Goose, age 55, of Cass Lake, Minnesota began her journey to the spirit world unexpectedly April 5, 2026, in her home. She was born to Larry and Sharon Goose on August 20, 1970, in Cass Lake, MN.
Anna grew up in between the Leech Lake area and Minneapolis. She attended Heart of the Earth Survival School in Minneapolis during her younger years and graduated from Bug-O-Nay-Ge-Shig School in 1989. She met her children’s father Todd Smith at Bug-O-Nay-Ge-Shig. Together they had four kids and now have fourteen grandchildren, Andrew, Aazhinae, Audrey’Ana, Ashton, Logan, Alice, Aaliyah, Debizi, Llewie, Russell, Suzie, Treasure, Theresa, Nakaiya, and number 15 on the way. Anna and Todd lived in Minneapolis for about 6 years before relocating to Sugar Point where they raised their children together until they separated. She worked for the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe for many years as an accountant. In her later years, Anna enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren and taking care of her dog Zoey. She was always an adventurous, free-spirit who enjoyed music, dancing, traveling, and spending time outside in the sun. She had a contagious laugh and always had a smile and a laugh to share. Her fun-loving presence will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
The family that Anna joins include her other half and father of her children; Todd Smith, her daughter; Vanessa Smith, her parents Sharon and Larry, brothers; Owen and Larry Goose, sisters; Michelle Goose and Brenda Medina-Graciano, and her beloved pet; Cookie.
Those she leaves behind to cherish her memory are her children, Jazmine Goose (Tyler), Lena Goose (Nodin), and Todd Smith II (Leah), sisters; Dawn, Michelle, Kelly, and Leanna Goose, brothers; Mike Morris, Brian Walker, John and Larry Goose, 14 grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and her dog Zoey.
A wake for Anna will begin at 5:00 p.m., Saturday, April 11, 2026, and will continue until the 11:00 a.m. traditional service on Sunday, April 12, 2026, all held at the Battle Point Community Center. Spiritual advisor will be Zac Earley. Pallbearers for Anna will be Todd Smith II, Enrique Goose, Andrew Goose-Spears Jr., Martin LeBlanc, Joe LeBlanc, Larry Goose, Devin Smith, Dennis Smith, Sr. with Kevin Green and Valarian Kingbird as alternates. Honorary pallbearers will be Tyler Wilson, all of Anna’s grandchildren, Jessica Goose, Dwayne Medina-Graciano, Iolanthe Wilson, Jeff Goose, Sr., Brian Walker, her beloved pet Zoey Goose, Cathy Bruce, Romona Goose, Juanita Jones, Jerrin Wilson, Stephanie Raygoza-Garcia, Tim Goose, Terry Morris, Harry Morris, Steven Jones, many close friends and relatives. Interment will be held in the Sugar Point Cemetery following the service.
