Ben “Butch” R. Pollock II, age 77, of Elk River, MN, passed away on Thursday, September 28, 2023, at M Health Fairview Northland in Princeton, MN. He was born on September 19, 1946, the son of Doris (James) and Ben R. Pollock in Luzerne, PA.
Ben played soccer, basketball, and baseball during his high school years before graduating from Benton High School on June 5, 1964. He went on to play American Legion Baseball while attending Bloomsburg State College, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in education on May 26, 1968. Ben was an elementary teacher and assistant basketball coach in Wilmington, Delaware. He owned A.B. & Sons Coal where they transported milk and other goods from New York to Pennsylvania. He owned and operated the Salt Box Inn, in Benton, PA. He managed many places before moving to Boca Raton, FL in 1984, where he started as an elementary teacher and finished as a high school teacher and Varsity Baseball coach, and a summer traveling American Legion Ball Coach. Ben moved to Walker, MN in 2004, then throughout MN until he made his final home in Elk River Senior Living. Ben was a dog lover and had several through the years including dalmatians, poodles, and black labs.
Ben is survived by daughters, Kristan (Steve) Pollock-Shimer and Erin (Kevin) Stewart; mother of his daughters, Dottie Ann Rabb-Pollock; sister, Margaret Anne Pollock-Temple; and 5 grandchildren, Dylan (Paige) Shimer, Angelica (Isaac) Karolczak, Autumn Pollock-Shimer, Mia Stewart, and Kaidi Stewart; nephew, Ronald Temple; niece, Vicki Lucas, and numerous other nieces and nephews.
Ben is preceded in death by his parents, Doris and Ben Pollock; grandparents, Reese and Mary Spargo James, Milton and Margaret Pollock; uncle, Kenneth Pollock; aunts, Marjorie Roberts and Lillian Hier; and niece, Ann Bevan.
A Celebration of Ben’s Life will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. with a one-hour visitation prior to the service, all to be held at Hope Lutheran Church in Walker, MN. Pastor Matthew McWaters will officiate.
