Bernice Ann Pemberton

Bernice Ann Pemberton, age76, of the Loon Clan and Cass Lake, MN journeyed to the Sprit World on Sunday, January 29th, 2023, from her home in Cass Lake, MN.  She was born on July 5th, 1946, in Cass Lake MN, the daughter of Alfred and Susan (Whitebird) Pemberton.

She grew up in Mission and attended school in Cass Lake after that she attended BSU/University of Minnesota where she received a master’s degree in education. Bernice was a very active educator, she loved to teach at several different schools.  She also served as Principal at several schools in the area.  She truly enjoyed helping her students get scholarships to college, as well as write grants for her schools. One of her favorite things to do was to write essays.

Bernice enjoyed travelling to various Casinos and visiting with the residents of that Community, she enjoyed playing Kenno while there.  She loved being around her children, grandchildren, and family.  She like to play scrabble and cribbage with her family and friends, as well as doing crosswords. When she wasn’t doing these things she enjoyed walks, picking Strawberries and potatoes.  She also had a sweet tooth and enjoyed her pop at all the family gatherings.

Those greeting Bernice in the spirit world are her parents, Alfred and Susan; sister, Carol J Kingbird; nephew, Ray Pemberton; and niece Rita Pemberton.

Those Bernice leaves behind to cherish her memory are her daughters, Toni Pemberton and Sharon Vannett; brother, Alfred (Simone) Pemberton Jr.; grandchildren, Ryan Connor, Jennifer (Dion) Connor, Tianna White, Kay White, Justin White; great grandchildren, Parker Connor, Aaliyah Connor, Alakai Barrett, and Mina White; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

The overnight wake for Bernice will begin on Friday, February 3, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. and continue until her Saturday, February 4, 2023, 11:00 a.m., Traditional Service, all to be held at the Veteran’s Memorial Building in Cass Lake, MN.  Officiating the wake will be Jeff Oakgrove, and Spiritual Advisor for the Traditional Service will be Allen Hardy. Those helping to lay Bernice to rest are Donald Headbird Sr., Bernard Brown Sr., Vincent Morris, Timothy Connor, Ryan Connor, and Justin White.  Honorary pallbearers are, Carol Wittner, Beverly Whitebird, Nancy Whitebird, Elizabeth “Roonie” Kingbird, Francis Vannett, and Annie English-Defoe. Interment will be in Prince of Peace Cemetery, Cass Lake, in the spring.
