Betty V (Buness) Premo

Betty Vida Premo, age 91, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at home on Saturday, December 14th, 2024, in Laporte, MN. She was born on June 3, 1933, in Walker, MN, the daughter of Oressa (Fairbanks) and Fred J. Buness.

Betty went to school in Laporte. She moved to Cass Lake when she was 16 and married at the age of 18. She operated the Sailstar Inn in Cass Lake for more than 10 years. Betty cooked in numerous restaurants before settling at the Cass Lake School, where she cooked and was a hall monitor. She retired from Cass Lake Bena School in 2016 at the age of 83. Betty enjoyed playing Bingo, card games, solitaire, slots at the casino, games, doing word searches, and crafting. She had a sense of humor that no one will forget. She loved to cook and bake, especially pies! Betty was like a mom to all her nieces and nephews.

Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Clifford “Bud” Premo; parents, Oressa and Fred Buness; brothers, Fred (Ruth) Buness, Jr., Richard Buness, Gary (Wendy) Buness; sisters, Glenyce (Harlen) Fossen, Lorraine (Claude) Ourada, Yvonne (Conrad) Christopherson, Lynne (Myron) Schnickels, and Sharon (Wally) Unander-Miller.

Betty is survived by her sons, Donald “Butch” (Anita) Premo, David Premo, Daniel (Doris) Premo; daughter, Dawn Premo; honorary daughters, Pat Broker and Kathy Croaker; brother, Dale (Carol) Buness; honorary son, Dean Evans; sister-in-law, Carroll Premo; 7 grandchildren, Stefanie, Nicole, Ambra, Scott, Chelsey, Daniel Jr., Amanda; and 23 great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Betty’s Life will be held on Saturday, January 4th, 2025, at 1:00 p.m., with a one-hour visitation prior, all to be held at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cass Lake, MN. Pastor Frederick “Fritz” Raedeke will officiate. Honorary urn bearers are all of Betty’s grandchildren. A private inurnment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Laporte, MN, at a later date.
