Beverly “Bev” Jean Lee, age 76, of Cass Lake, MN, met her Lord and Savior on Sunday, June 25, 2023, from Fairview Health U of M in Minneapolis, MN. She was born on December 1, 1946, in Mahnomen, MN, the daughter of Clara (Sargent) and Angus Clark.
Bev grew up in Roy Lake and attended school in Mahnomen. She went on to complete a fast-track LPN Program where she eventually worked for Cass Lake IHS. Bev raised her kids in Bena. She loved hunting, fishing, and watching WWE. She enjoyed cooking, canning, baking, sewing, and chewing bubblegum. Bev made the best fry bread and butter mints. She always made yummy Christmas goody trays to give out, and all who have received one looked forward to those trays. Bev gave freely, if it was hers, it was yours, gracious, charitable, and generous. She frequented pow wows, made traditional regalia and jingle dresses. Bev liked to go to the casino and play bingo.
Above all else, family time was Bev’s most cherished place to spend her time. She loved her dogs, and Duke’s belly would show she spoiled him too. She always left the kitchen light on, had coffee on and enjoyed company. Bev made a HUGE difference in many kids’ lives; she was known as grandma by many. She proudly served on the Leech Lake Honor Guard and Women’s Auxiliary and as a committee member on the Cass Lake/Bena local education for Indian education for 32 years. Bev traveled and put a ton of extra work into Indian Education and even lobbied twice in D.C. for impact aid. She helped bring the first drum and dance group to fruition at Cass Lake Schools and that is still going strong today. Bev’s unending kind heart will be greatly missed by all who were lucky enough to know her.
Bev is preceded in death by her parents, Clara and Angus; two husbands, Gene Haaland and Ron Lee; brothers, Melvin, Bernard, and Calvin Clark; and sister, Carol Lafriener.
Those Bev leaves behind to forever cherish her memory are her sons, Ricky (Arlene), Guy (Sue), Donavon (Carrie), and Rory (Melissa) Haaland, Greg (Alicia) Seelye; daughters, Shayna Lee, Lauren Lee; 15 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; a spoiled wiener dog, Duke; many friends and other family members.
Funeral Service for Bev will be Saturday, July 1, 2023, at 2:00 p.m., with a visitation 2 hours prior, all to take place at the White Earth Family Center in Cass Lake, MN. Pastor John Swanson will officiate. Pallbearers are Gabe Haaland, Tyler Haaland, Cody Haaland, Ben Haaland, Katie Port, and Jack Haaland. Honorary pallbearers are all God’s children Bev had a hand in helping raise. Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Bena, MN.
