Chanunpa yuha mani, Brian Joseph Long, age 41, began his journey to the spirit world on Thursday, October 21st, 2021, from his home in Duluth, Minnesota. Brian was born in Duluth, MN on January 11, 1980, the son of Patricia (Garbow) and Barthalomew Long.
Brian’s rich Indigenous heritage included the combination of Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe and the Oglala Lakota Nation, and he represents the Wolf Clan. Brian graduated from Unity High School in Duluth, MN and earned his degree from the University of Superior Wisconsin. He enjoyed being employed in the Culinary Arts business. Brian also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, going to powwows, spending time on the Mission Flats in South Dakota, and watching his Pittsburgh Steelers.

Family that welcomes Brian to the spirit world are his brothers; Adrian and Raphael Long, grandparents; David and Ramona Long and Bernice and Simon Garbow, Sr. and his nephew; Casey Weston.
He leaves behind his daughters: Yasmine and Jayda Long, parents: Patricia and Bart Long of Duluth, MN, brothers: Xavier Long of Pine Ridge, SD, and Nathaniel Longtail of Black River Falls, WI, sisters: Shannon Long of Pine Ridge, SD, Angela (Kurt) Buffalo of Duluth, MN, Edye Washington of Duluth, MN, and Eliza Washington of Minneapolis, MN, two grandchildren: Suave’ and Cleo, one grandbaby on the way: Alaia, cousins: Andrea and Will Kingbird and Bernard and Dorothy Robinson, special friend: Lynzie Lightfeather, his best fur friend: Tank, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
An overnight wake for Brian will begin at 6:00 p.m., Sunday, October 24th and continue until his 10:00 a.m. traditional service on Monday, October 25th all taking place at the Inger Community Center in Inger, MN. Gimiwan Burnett will be his Spiritual Advisor. Pallbearers will be Chase Roy, Cid Long, Izaiah Lightfeather, Will Kingbird, Trevor Plentyhorse, BJ Robinson, Kenny Garbow and Nathaniel Longtail. Brian’s honorary pallbearers are all his family and friends. Interment will be in the Inger Cemetery at Inger, MN.
