Carol Jean Guinn, “wasemiigwanaanakwadikwe” meaning “shining feather cloud woman,” age 77, journeyed to the spirit world on Wednesday, December 11th, 2024, from her home in Detroit Lakes, MN. She was born on October 6, 1947, in Cass Lake, MN, the daughter of Julia and Frederick Critt. Carol was a member of the Bear Clan.
Carol loved her home at Pelican Landing in Detroit Lakes, she was very happy there. She loved it when Denise took her to the casino or Bingo. She enjoyed completing the fill-in puzzle books or playing solitaire. Carol was smart, kind, humble, and generous with her time. Carol graduated from Globe University Business School in St. Paul, MN. She was a Spiritual Advisor and Healer for many, people would come to her travelling long distances to meet with her. She was known for traveling throughout the United States and Indian Country. Carol helped to create the Anishinaabe Center in Detroit Lakes. She liked quilting and beading. Carol worked in the financial office of the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe. Carol will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Those greeting Carol in the spirit world are her parents, Julia and Frederick; daughter, Chrystal Guinn; son, Rawlen Guinn, Jr.; brothers, Frederick Critt, Jr., Bob Bishop, Randall Vannett; sister, Joyce Critt; “Spiritual Sister”, Rhonda Graves; and the father of her children, Rawlen Guinn, Sr.
Those Carol leaves behind to forever cherish her loving memory are her daughters, Julie (Donnie) Saice and Denise Guinn; adopted daughter, Susie (David) Ballot; sister, Debbie; 8 grandchildren, Angela, John, Brian, Michelle, Victor, Iliesha, Trey III, Amber; 7 greatgrandchildren; numerous other family members and friends.
An overnight wake for Carol will begin at 5:00 p.m., Sunday, December 15th, 2024, and continue until her traditional service at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, December 16th, 2024, all to be held at the Sports Complex in NayTahWaush, MN. Carol’s Spiritual Advisor is Naabeckwa Liberty. Those helping to lay Carol to rest are Doug Weaver, Vince Olson, Dave Hanks, Dino Magney, Dylion Magney, and Jesse Thompson. Honorary pallbearers are Owe-enh/wag, Tim Roy, Judy Northbird, Sandy Hernandez, and all her family and friends.
