Catherine Elaine (Johnson) Westlund

Catherine Elaine Westlund, 75, of Cass Lake, MN passed away peacefully on Friday, December 27th at Sanford Bemidji Medical Center.

Cathy was born on April 1,1949 in Salt Lake City, UT. The oldest child, and only daughter of Eva (Allen) and Harold Johnson. She graduated from Granger High School in 1967. She married the love of her life, Albert John Westlund on April 28, 1969, in Las Vegas, NV. They made their home in Salt Lake City, UT where their first son was born. They later moved to Cass Lake, MN in 1973 where two more sons joined their family. John and Cathy were happily married for 53 years prior to John’s passing in 2022.

Cathy was a gifted seamstress. She created many beautiful dresses for her granddaughters and countless pajamas for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She created several large doilies that won grand champion and numerous ribbons at the Beltrami County Fair. She was a phenomenal baker and would bake the best homemade bread, rolls and cinnamon rolls.

Cathy is survived by her sons, John (Lisa) Westlund of Cass Lake, MN, Craig (Jessica) Westlund, of Bemidji, MN and Jason (April) Westlund of Cass Lake, MN. Three stepchildren, Wes (Karina) Westlund, Ginger Westlund, and Penny Simmons. Eight grandchildren, Christopher Westlund, Katelyn (Jackson) Lindsey, Valerie (Ben) Porter, Elizabeth (Micah) Weckert, Matthew Westlund, Nathan Westlund, Johanna(Anton) Justesen, and Ethan Westlund. Five Great grandchildren, Owen, Ruby, Soren, Maita, and Eli. Three brothers, Lyle (Debbie) Johnson, Kevin (Brenda) Johnson, Kim Johnson. Sister-in-law Nancy Foster and brother-in-law Cliff (Betty) Westlund and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, Kenneth Johnson, and Bruce Johnson.
