Cheryl Bowstring Obituary

Cheryl “Sheri” Marie Bowstring, age 59, started on her spiritual journey on Saturday, March 6, 2021 from the St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth, Minnesota.  She was born to Tommy and Adaline (Gotchie) Bowstring on August 17, 1961 in Cass Lake, MN.

Sheri graduated from Deer River High School in 1980, and went on to attend Haskell University in Lawrence, Kansas.

Sheri lived most of her life in Ball Club and the Deer River area.  She also lived in Duluth and Alaska for a short time.  Sheri was very generous, a good friend to many and had a sense of humor.  She enjoyed spending time visiting friends and family, she attended pow-wows, especially Mi-Gwitch Mahnomen Days, listening to her favorite classic rock station 99.1 to hear Pink Floyd, AC/DC, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Rollings Stones, The Doors and Kid Rock, just to name a few.  She babysat for families and friends in the community and around the area.  Sheri enjoyed adult coloring books and doing word find puzzles.  Her fried chicken was liked by numerous people, especially Travis.  Sheri’s list of favorite foods include Banquet chicken, regular Cheetos, regular cream soda, mac salad, fry bread, wild rice, mashed potatoes and gravy.  Her favorite color was purple.  She was employed by Leech Lake Gaming, Leech Lake ENP and the Bug-o-Nay-Ge-Shig School in various positions for several years before her medical conditions forced her to stay at home.  Sheri will be sadly missed by all that knew her.

The family that Sheri joins again are her parents; Tommy and Adaline Bowstring, grandparents; John Bowstring, Rose Lyons, Andrew and Mary Gotchie, brothers; Tom “Bow” and Mark Bowstring, niece; Marya “Tum” Jenkins, great niece; Adaline Bowstring and many uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.

Those left behind to cherish her memory are her daughter; Miranda Michelle Bowstring, brothers; Gerald “Jake”, Kelly and Joe Bowstring, sisters; Carol Jenkins and Marilyn Bowstring, aunts; Lucille White, Nellie and Phyllis Gotchie, uncle; Joe White, nieces; Sam, Autumn, Tasha, Aliyah, Ryanna, Cedes, Jade, Valentine, Allisyn, Tailyn, Kalina and Waa seyaa, nephews; Petey, Richard Jr., Zack, Thomas, Brady, Travis, Troy and George III, special aunt; Hope Thompson and many special friends.

An overnight wake for Sheri will begin at 5:00 p.m., Friday, March 12th and continue until her 9:00 a.m. traditional service on Saturday, March 13th all to be held at the Ball Club Community Center in Ball Club, MN. Waa-maajaa’iwed is Steve Jacson. Helping to lay Sheri to rest are Travis Gale, Troy Bowstring, George Jenkins III, Mike White, Pat White, Milt Gotchie, Darwin Kingbird.  The alternate pallbearers are Ben Gotchie, Leo Gotchie, Jr., Joe Kingbird and Kevin Fairbanks, Sr.  Her honorary pallbearers are Tracey B., Kelly B., Joe B., Mary Jo R., Jenn C., Sam B., Lisa J., Becky M., Bernie C., Melissa S., Missy B., Michelle S., Doreen S., Terry T., Jen T., Hope T., Elaine G., Chris H., Evelyn H., Rose R., Earlene B., Brenda W., Beaver, Liz S., Shelly B., Bernadette G., Iris B.,  Wanda YRC. and all her family and friends.  Interment will be in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery at Ball Club, MN.  The family requests that everyone practice social distancing and to wear a mask if you are planning to attend.
