Cheryl Dockter Obituary

Cheryl Elaine (Nygaard) Dockter, 74 years old, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at home on October 15, 2024. Cheryl was born on May 5, 1950, in Breckenridge, MN to Eileen (Conzemius) and Vernon Nygaard.

Cheryl's early years were at the family farm near Campbell, MN. This is where she attended grade school and recalled stories of her dad sitting on the hood of the car grouse hunting as her mom drove, while in their Sunday best after church service. They moved to Fridley, MN where she graduated from Fridley High School in 1968. Following graduation she worked at Honeywell where she met her future father in law Daniel Dockter who teased that she would someday marry his son.

In 1971, she married David Dockter and they spent years traveling and raising their family. Cheryl was a devoted mom, was proud of her girls, and she showed up to all of their events. They spent most weekends at the family cabin, where she found her love of the Minnesota north woods and lake life.  Cheryl and David were married for 27 years before they divorced but continued to spend family holidays together and remained close friends.

Cheryl loved feeding and watching birds, quilting with her quilt club gals, winning at the casino, playing cards, and dancing. But what she loved most dearly were her grandchildren; she would sing to them “You are my Sunshine” and they will always be the sunshine in her life.

During her career, she worked at Minco Products for over 30 years before her retirement from the corporate world. She fulfilled a dream of hers by becoming owner of Morning Star Resort in Cass Lake, MN.  She loved running the resort with her family on the lake, where she met many wonderful people, and enjoyed daily happy hour laughing with her closest friends.

Cheryl is survived by her daughters, Dawn Dockter (Justin Sibben) and Cindy Mohs (George); granddaughters, Faith (Nathan), Ariel, Gracie, Dakota, Eliette, Taleigh; great-granddaughter, Isabella; siblings, Karen Portz (Dale), LaVern Nygaard (Chelsea), Danny Nygaard (Nerissa), Julie Jaegar (Ron), Terry Nygaard (Jeane); many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Cheryl is reunited in heaven with her parents, Eileen and Vernon Nygaard; grandparents, Julia and Joseph Conzemius and Mabel and Daniel Nygaard; and best friend, Barb “Bugsy” Urness.
