Darleen Bogue Obituary

Darleen Marion Bogue passed away peacefully at her home on June 7, 2023, at the age of 75.  With loving family at her side. Our Heavenly Father called her to her eternal home just after noon hour.

Darleen was born January 6, 1948, to Ernest T. and Alma O. (Rust) Melvie, in Thief River Falls, MN.  She was baptized as an infant, raised and confirmed in the Christian faith.  She grew up on the family farm near Viking, MN, where she grew to adulthood.  She attended Viking Elementary and graduated from Newfolden High School in 1966, renamed Marshall County Central.   After high school she attended the Covenant Bible College in Prince Albert Saskatchewan, Canada, graduating in 1968.  Darleen had a giving spirit and passion for helping other people, which is why she chose the nursing profession for her career.  She graduated from St. Luke’s School of Nursing in Duluth, MN, in 1971 as an RN.  Her working years as an RN moved her around and brought her to many positions and locations, including Marshall County Nursing Service, Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls; Spokane, Washington; McAllen, Texas; Unity Hospital in Fridley, MN; the U of M Hospitals in the Twin Cities/Minneapolis area; and the American Red Cross. Darleen was also a Parish Nurse at Union Congregational Church in Hackensack.

Darleen found and made time for her many hobbies, interests, and family.  She wasn’t afraid to try or do anything, and was an avid gardener, enjoyed reading, music, needlepoint, knitting, traveling, photography, painting, puzzles, board and card games, and animals.

She was a wonderful baker, known for her delicious peanut butter rolls, chocolate chip cookies, donuts, homemade ice cream, lefse and Norwegian delicacy - krumkake.  She had a sharp mind, quick wit, and a great sense of humor, which made her a great storyteller.  Darleen also loved sports either playing or watching them. She was an “arm-chair” coach for her beloved Minnesota Vikings and Minnesota Twins.  She played on both a women’s and co-ed softball team, and a bowling league winning many trophies and league titles. She even buckled on a carpenter tool belt from time to time.

Darleen loved friends and family and showed how very important and special each person was to her.  She loved traveling and took a memorable month-long trip to Norway with her mother and two of her sisters to visit and reconnect with relatives there.  She also took all her nieces and nephews on week-long camping trips in a pick-up box-style camper – the girls would go one week and boys the next, to places like Duluth, the Badlands and the Black Hills.   She loved her family unconditionally and spent as much time as she could with them.

Darleen was a member of the Book and Thimble Club in Hackensack, as well as hosting “Singing on the Porch” outings at her home for lake neighbors singing old songs and enjoying each other’s company.

Above all, Darleen loved and devoted her life to her personal Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Studying and learning about the Word of God was a very important part of her daily life.  Darleen was an active member of Longville Bible Chapel.  Some of her activities included a Sunday school teacher, Ladies Bible study, adult Bible studies, Bible camps, and Ladies Mission Circle. She prayed daily for her family, friends, and those she didn’t know.

Darleen is preceded in death by her parents, Ernest & Alma; husbands, Merle Wakefield and Wilbur Bogue; brother, Erwin Melvie; sisters-in-law, Viola Melvie and Theresa Melvie; brother-in-law, Doug Wahl; nephew, Randy Nelson and great-nephew, Jared Nelson.  Plus, let’s not forget her very special and precious furry pets – Herman, Bear and Tommy-John.

Darleen is survived by her siblings: brother, Ernest O. Melvie; sisters, Marilyn Wahl, Carolyn Hugg (Louis), and Orlette Gjerde; nieces and nephews, Kristi, Kevin, Kraig (Dayna); Sherri, Alan, Jill (Kevin), Joel, Shane, Jodi, Tami, Jeffrey (Tresa), and Joshua; great nieces and nephews, Jacoby (Wendy), Shandy, Jesse; Alexis (Garret), Kasey, Kinzie; Adam, Logan, Krystal, Tanner, Sierra, Teegan, Tyler (Dakota), Taylor, Tucker and Tanner.  Great-great niece and nephew, RayeLee and Theo.
