David Mark Kurz

June 5th, 1957 – September 11th, 2023

David passed away peacefully on September 11th, 2023, overlooking his lake at his home in Longville, MN surrounded by family and loved ones. David is survived by his beloved wife of 38 years, Debbie; sons James, David Jr., and Mark (Ashley); grandchildren SammyJo, Jade, Alexis, Ava, Jackson, and Austin; siblings, Dwight, Nancy, Susie, Steve (Deb), and Karen. He is preceded in death by his loving parents Tom & Dolores; brothers in-law Jerry Rankin, John Hutchens, and Mark Reiland.

David was born on June 5th, 1957, in Saint Paul, MN to parents Tom and Dolores Kurz. He graduated from Hill Murray High School in 1975 where he was the president and founder of the Non-Sportsman’s Club. David and Debbie were married June 15th, 1985, and raised their family in Maplewood, MN. David supported his family under the employment of Nela for 35 years in many different roles. In July 2020, David fulfilled his lifelong dream of following in his parent’s footsteps by retiring in Longville, MN at the family lake home.

David cared for his family above all and loved spending time with his grandchildren. In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time with friends, fishing, hunting, playing cribbage, and enjoying the “occasional” Bud Light. David will be remembered for his courage, strength, kindness, helping hands, generosity, sense of humor, and strong faith.

David was known by many names which include Dave, Honey, Dad/Daddy, Old Man, Pops, Son, Brother, Friend, Uncle, God Father, Baby Dabey, Putt-Putt, Fats, and Kurzie, but above all, “Grandpa”.

He will be greatly missed by all. 

Funeral Services will be held in Longville, MN and in Saint Paul, MN:

St. Edward’s Catholic Church at 4905 MN-84 in Longville, MN on September 23rd. A visitation will begin at 9:30am with mass at 10:00am.  

St. Pascal Baylon Catholic Church at 1757 Conway Street in St. Paul, MN on October 13th, 2023. A visitation will begin at 9:30am with mass at 10:30am and luncheon to follow.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society in David’s name.
