Ernestine Morgan Councillor, Mukwa Doodim, age 55, of Fort Francis, Ontario, Canada began her journey to the spirit world from her home on Monday, August 10th, 2020. She was born on December 22, 1964 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Rose M. and Robert Johnson.
Ernestine was a strong and deeply committed to keeping up her traditional ways, even belonging to the Councillor Family Drum Group. She was fashionable and enjoyed dressing up. Ernestine enjoyed walking, thrifting, garage sales, powwows, beading, picking medicines and spending time with her three dogs, Hemi, Fluffy and Agnus. She was a knowledgeable person and was still learning.
She is welcomed to the spirit world by her sons, Ronnie Headbird and Tyrone Morgan and her parents, Rose Morgan and Robert Johnson.
Those left behind to forever cherish her memory are her life partner and best friend, Louis Johnson Councillor; son, Darryl Headbird; daughter, Shannon Roy; Louis’ children, Orville, Kyle and Trudy Councillor; her siblings, Dolly Esquivel, Bill Morgan-Johnson, Florestine “Flossy” Morgan-Johnson, Richard Morgan-Johnson and Lisa Ronquist, all her other relatives and her pow-wow friends she met on the trail.
An overnight wake for Ernestine will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, August 21st and continue until her 10:00 a.m. traditional service on Saturday, August 22nd all being held at the Facility Center in Cass Lake, MN. Waa-maajaa’iwed will be Steve Jackson. Pallbearers for Ernestine will be Paris Johnson, Billi Morgan-Johnson, Torey Kingbird, Vincent Morris, Brandon Morgan and Noah Abraham. Her honorary pallbearers are Louis Johnson-Councillor, Orville Councillor, Kyle Councillor, Trudy Councillor, Shannon Roy, Javier Esquivel Alvidrez, Javier Esquivel, Chyrle Laduke, Cecil “Tiny” Haugen, Maybel Roy, Mindy Jones and all her powwow family. Interment will be next to her son Tyrone, in the Morgan Family Cemetery at Cass Lake, MN.
