Gary Wayne Hanson, age 67, “Be maa maazh” meaning “High Soaring Eagle” began his journey on Monday, November 25th, 2024, at Abbott Northwestern in Minneapolis, MN. He was born on April 19, 1957, in Cass Lake, MN, the son of Adrienne and Harry Hanson.
Gary was retired after over 30 years in the E.M.S. service spent mostly at IHS in Cass Lake. He was a Bigfork High School and UMD graduate. Gary was a very calm and quiet person which made him great at his job. He loved golfing! He also loved reading books and playing board games. He was known to give everyone nick names. Gary loved a good Brandy.
Gary leaves behind his sisters, Estelle “Julie” Marotta, Carmen Hanson, and Marcella (Scott) Johnston; aunts, Muriel Crawford and Marilyn Roybal; many nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews.
Greeting Gary into the spirit world are his parents, Adrienne and Harry; sister, Kristen Elizabeth; grandparents, Louise and Robert Charwood grandfather, Mike Goggleye; his love, Christina Guimaraes; along with their unborn baby; uncles, Robert Charwood and Darrell Charwood; aunt, Arlene Sweedman; great aunt, Elizabeth Goggleye-Norcross.
An overnight wake for Gary will begin on Tuesday, December 3, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. and continue until his traditional service on Wednesday, December 4th, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., all to be held at the Squaw Lake Community Center, with Father George Ross officiating and Gary Charwood as Gary’s Spiritual Advisor. Those helping to lay Gary to rest are Ken Litzau, Christopher Marotta, Sebastian Marotta, Theodore Marotta, Phillip Budreau, and Anthony Hanson. Honorary pallbearers are Cree Marotta, Muriel Crawford, Marilyn Roybal, Dawn Staples, Kerri Rousu, and Elizabeth Hanson. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Round Lake Cemetery.
