Born on January 14, 1947 at Cass Lake Indian Hospital to Joseph W. Johnson and Mary Ann Johnson, our father, brother, uncle, friend, Grover J. Johnson started his journey home on Thursday September 17, 2020 at 9:55 p.m. at St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth, Minnesota.
In 1967 Grover enlisted with the United States Army reaching the rank of Sergeant and proudly served his country in the Vietnam War until 1970 with the 7th Cavalry, where he met up and served with his brother Jimmy Littlewolf. Grover was presented with the Medal of Honor for saving a couple of his brother in arms during battle, he also was presented with a purple heart.
Grover is survived by his children, Julia, Sylvia, Grover Jr., and Sean Johnson; his brothers, Charles Johnson (Kathy) and Pete Johnson; sister, Esther Johnson (George); numerous grandkids, nieces and nephews, three special children; Camilla, Bryten, and Kellen Johnson and his special brother and comrade, James Littlewolf.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mary Ann Johnson; sisters, Ethel Johnson, Betty Johnson, Shirley Johnson-Jamnusch, Darlene Johnson-Peques, and Kathy Battees; brothers, Paul and Raymond Johnson.
A graveside burial was held Friday, September 25th, 2020 in the Woodland Cemetery at Onamia, MN. His honorary pallbearers are Esther Johnson, Charles Johnson, Julia Johnson, Sean Johnson and all Grover’s grandchildren and great grandchildren.
