Guy Greene, Jr. Obituary

Guy Downs Greene, Jr, age 82, of Federal Dam, Minnesota began his journey to the spirit world on Tuesday, September 8th, 2020 from Sanford Hospital in Bemidji, MN with his family by his side.  He was born on July 26, 1938 in Kinmount, MN to Rachel (White) and Guy Greene, Sr.

Guy spent his childhood in Sugar Point, Federal Dam and Princeton before enlisting in the United States Army in 1956.  He served in the 82nd Airborne as an Airborne Instructor, with the U.S. Special Forces and in a combat engineer unit as a Demolition Expert and Sharpshooter.  Guy was honorably discharged in 1968.  After his discharge from the Army, Guy became certified in welding and carpentry and went on to work construction. He was a naturally gifted craftsman and artist.  Guy later worked as a fishing guide, served on the Leech Lake Ricing Committee and worked for Leech Lake Housing Authority for more than 20 years.

For many years, Guy looked forward to his annual fishing trip to Canada with the guys and had a lifelong passion for his maple sugar camp.  He enjoyed, hunting, fishing, netting, ricing, syruping, trapping, minnowing, gardening, and evening road trips and boat rides.  Guy was known for having the best wild rice and smoked fish around.  He also loved watching sports, especially boxing and football.  Guy was always busy doing something or working until he no longer could.  He was a world traveler, a storyteller and a jokester but always kept his doors open to anyone in need.  Guy loved his grandchildren; they were the apple of his eye.  He always enjoyed the treats his granddaughters would bring him.  We will miss him always saying “it don’t cost a dime to smile”.

Family welcoming Guy to the spirit world are his parents, Rachel and Guy Greene, Sr.; sons, Thomas Lee Greene, Guy Greene III, Donald Knoll and Rayme Hefta; siblings, Georgia Daley, Everina “Peggy” Mettler, Dolly Boyd, Glen Greene, Josephine Lee, Betty Greene and Frank Leonard White; father in law and best friend, Donald Jesse White, close friend, Jerry Chizek, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, aunties, uncles and many friends.

Those Guy leaves behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 46 years, April Greene of Federal Dam; children, Dana (Edouardo) Roybal of Walker, Jesse (Cherilyn) Greene of Wilkenson, Kelly (Ferron) Greene of Onamia, Crystal (Tim) Greene of Cass Lake, Ne-Dah-Ness Greene-Jordan of Federal Dam, Mary Greene of Federal Dam, Dixie (Augustine) Wilkie-Ramirez of Belcourt, ND, Jerry True of Federal Dam, Mike Greene of Boy River, Hope (Leon) True of Bena and Marlowe (Jay) Greene of Cass Lake; Rayshele Kamke of Wisconsin, siblings, Irene Greene, Sherrill Patterson, Virginia “Ginger” Greene and Giiwedin Biindige; close daughter/granddaughter, Candace Dik, “special brother” and lifelong friend, Jerry Bader, numerous grandbabies, great grandbabies, several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many special friends.
