Hazel Irene (Dodson) Pennel

Hazel Irene Dodson Pennel was called home by her heavenly Father on Friday, January 8th, 2021 at 4:50pm while residing at the home of her grandson and his wife, Keith and Sissie in Bemidji, MN at the age of 103.

She had been residing with them since September 7th of last year. While there, she made many friends and was affectionately nicknamed “GG”. GG was well cared for and loved during her time in their home and is missed deeply by all her family and friends. The legacy she left behind will never be forgotten.

Irene was born Oct 9th, 1917 to Fletcher and Amy (Bennett) Dodson. Irene was born in Barry County east of Purdy, Missouri in the Cedar Bluff community where she spent most of her life. In 1938, she married Wayne Pennel and together they had three boys. She was preceded in by her husband along with two of her sons, Doyle Pennel and Donald Pennel and her parents. Also preceding her in death were her three brothers…Herbert, Paul and Bill Dodson as well as three sisters, Juanita Neill, Pearl Ebersold and Edwina Terry.

She is survived by one sister, Betty Schnaible of Lodi, California and one son Darrel (Norma) Pennel of Verona, Missouri. Also surviving her are six grandchildren: Kevin Pennel of Arizona, Kent (Cari) Pennel of Iowa, Keith (Sissie) Pennel of Minnesota, Khris (Sheryl) Pennel of Ohio, Janet Pennel of Oklahoma and Charlie Pennel of Oklahoma. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren, Courtney (Rachel), Sarah, Hallie, Luke, and April and three great-great grandsons Nolan, Noxx and Noakley, along with multiple cousins, nieces and nephews.

The service to celebrate the life of Irene will be on Friday, January 22nd at Bennett and Wormington Funeral Home in Monett, Missouri. Visitation will be from 9am to 10am, followed by the service at 10am. Following the service, the burial will be at Calton Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Following the burial. A luncheon will be served at Faith Worship Center in Aurora, Missouri where everyone is welcome to join her family
