John Dunn, Jr., “ManaBozh” age 81, of the Bullhead Clan and Cass Lake, MN, journeyed to the spirit world on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, from Sanford Medical Center in Bemidji, MN. He was born on September 9, 1942, the son of Alice (Taylor) and John Dunn, Sr., in Cass Lake, MN.
John attended country school in Wilkinson and Cass Lake Elementary and high school, finishing his G.E.D. after his years in the U.S. Army in Vietnam. He worked Maintenance at IHS in Cass Lake, retiring after 24 years. He worked several other places, including 10 years at CL-B Elementary School as head custodian before another retirement in 2008. John was a loving dad, uncle, and grandpa, the last of his siblings in his family to pass. He loved football, feeding animals, ricing, small engines, drawing, going to the casino, and electronics, if it wasn’t broken he couldn’t fix it. He loved and cherished his visits with his son, Glen, right up to the time of his death.
Those John leaves behind to forever cherish his memory are his son, Glen “Tuffy” Fisher; stepdaughters, Jane Fisher and Patsy Fisher; nieces, Bee Dunn and Barb (Haugen) Dunn; nephew, Ernest Dunn; special granddaughter, Lucille Fisher; special friend, Karen Frazier; many great nieces and nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Greeting John in the spirit world are his daughter, Carla Dunn, who came to take him on his journey on October 3, 2023, the same day she passed 18 years ago; parents, Alice and John Dunn, Sr.; mother of his children, Shirley Dunn; brothers, Richard, Wesley, and Louie Dunn, Sr.; sisters, Dorothy (Jenkins) Dunn and Roberta Dunn; nieces, Dora (Powers) Dunn, Onawa Dunn, Deborah Dunn Fairbanks, Kandace Dunn; nephews, Adrian Dunn and Nathan “Newt” Dunn Jenkins; grandsons, Ed Fisher, Doug Clark, and Brandon Humphrey.
A two-night wake for John will begin on Friday, October 6, 2023, at 7:00 p.m. and continue until his Sunday, October 8, 2023, 12:00 p.m. service, all to be held at the Veteran’s Memorial Building in Cass Lake. John’s Spiritual Advisor is Zach Early. Those helping to lay John to rest are Eugene Tibbetts, Chris Fisher, Kyle Dunn, Jesse Dunn, Colter Humphrey, and Sage Humphrey. Honorary pallbearers are all of John’s family and friends. Interment will be in the Morgan Cemetery in Cass Lake, MN.
