Josue Benjamin Diaz-Johnson, Biko jii gwe wizenes which means “Little Big Bellied Boy”, age 21, of Minneapolis, MN and the Eagle Clan journeyed to the spirit world from Franklin, KY on Wednesday, December 22, 2021. He was born March 28, 2000, in Minneapolis, the son of Luis Humberto and Melody Johnson.

Josue was a kind, caring, and funny young man who could make everyone smile. He enjoyed beading, working, and helping when and where he was able to. He liked to play with his nieces and nephews. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He liked to watch movies and listen to music. He helped in the concession stands at the pow-wows. Josue’s contagious smile will be missed by all who knew him.

Those greeting Josue in the spirit world are his brothers, Marcus Johnson and LaVan Stillday; sister, Changing Woman; aunties, Stacy, Delma, Maxine, and Lucina Hardy; grandfather, Marlon Johnson; great-grandparents, Louis Kingbird, Sr., William Hardy, and Andrew Sigana, Rosadelle and Dellis Johnson, and Edith Sigana.

Those left behind to cherish the memory of Josue are his mother, Melody Johnson of Minneapolis; father, Luis Humberto of Ecuador; brothers, Derrick Johnson, Jonas Jenardo-Garcia, Jr. both of Minneapolis, Andrew French of Baudette, MN, and Dustin Stillday of ND; sisters, Rhianna (Brandon) Johnson Of Bemidji, MN, Chelsi Johnson, Sheanna French, Jerian Kingbird all of Baudette, Takayla Johnson of Minneapolis, Tristyn Stillday and Maria Stillday both of Warroad, MN; nieces, Paisley Adam, Macie Pepworth, Nikayla Stillday, Ciara Stillday, Raelynn; nephews, Alias Hansen, Calian Hansen, Ronald Pepworth, Jr., JaVon Stillday; aunties, Salina Johnson and Season Means; uncles, Anthony and Matthew Morrison; special uncles, Louis (Roberta) Kingbird, Jr., and Oriole (Vicky) Kingbird; grandmother, Williamette Hardy; great-grandmother, Elizabeth Kingbird; close cousins Kristen, Dino, Chelsea, Raquel, Juanita, Francisco, Nahstacia, Eleyna, Edward, Jr., Rosa, Frankie, Marissa, Natalie, Francisco, Jr., Damita, Lucia, A’taya, A’mara, Mi’Carli, Mattila, Matthew, Jr., Manny, Maggie, and Amy.

A traditional wake for Josue will begin Saturday, January 8, 2022, at 12:00 p.m. and continue until his Monday, January 10, 2022, 10:00 a.m. service all held at the Boys & Girls Club in Ponemah, MN. Josue’s Spiritual Advisor is Allen Hardy. Josue’s Drum Group is P-Town Boyz. Those helping to lay Josue to rest are Richard “Opi” Defoe, Jr., Darris Johnson, Nicholas Johnson, Kyle Hardy, Francisco Gallegos, Andrew French and alternates Brandan Hansen and Daniel Bray. Honorary pallbearers are Warroad Dairy Queen Crew, Ryshayna J, Amanda M, Lacey L, Cathleen N, Kaycee N, Starlee O, Danielle S, Aaliyah G, Lyndsey F, KaSheena G, Jerian K, Sheanna F, Anhelica K, Rhianna J, Chelsi J, Derrick J, Jonas G, Takayla J, Eva W, Krystal K, and all his family and friends. Interment will be in Josue’s Family Burial Grounds in Ponemah, MN.
