Judy Ann Sanders Ryan,79, enrolled member of the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe and Bear Clan, born on December 12, 1944, left this world and traveled to the Spirit World on Saturday afternoon on October 5, 2024. Judy slipped quietly away with the family nearby.
She joins her parents, Walter Sanders and Josephine Bongo Sanders, brothers; Walter Sanders Jr., Lonnie Dale Sanders, Lew Vern Sanders, and her beloved husband, Roman Alan Jr., and son Roman Alan Ryan III.
Judy is survived by her sisters; Doris June (James) Eaglin, Lynnette Lee Sanders, Barbara Jo Sanders, Yvonne Marie (LC) Armstrong, daughters; Lori Ann Ryan, Jacqueline Ann Ryan, and Ria Ryan, grandchildren; Timothy, Terry, Johnny, Laci, and Sean Ryan, Christina, Raheem, many great-grandchildren and great-greatgrandchildren. As well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
After growing up on Leech Lake, Judy attended Haskell Indian Nations University and worked at the Red Lake hospital clinic as a Dental Assistant before beginning her family. She later graduated from Metro State University with a degree in Psychology and worked in social service agencies until retirement.
Judy loved children and could be found baking Christmas cookies surrounded by both biological and foster children. She looked forward to the brilliant colors of fall, gathering wildflowers and growing plants both inside and outside her home.
Judy’s service will be held Friday October 11, 2024, visitation will be at 11:00 a.m. with service at 12:00 p.m. at Calvary Church in Walker, MN. Pastor Mark Wiman will officiate. Those helping to lay Judy rest are Timmy Ryan, Johnny Ryan, Sean Ryan, Raheem Ryan, Roosevelt Stewart, and Wesley Armstrong. Honorary pallbearers are all who knew and loved her. Interment will be immediately following the service at Evergreen Cemetery in Walker, MN.
