Keith Samuel Loomis, 90, of Walker, MN passed away on August 11, 2023.
Keith was born on August 30, 1932 in a small town near Des Moines, IA to Manford and Ruth Loomis. Keith grew up near Des Moines on a farm, with his two brothers, Kenneth and Donald Loomis.
After graduating from high school, Keith joined the Marines and served his country for 3 years. After receiving a GI Bill, Keith attended Iowa State Teachers College.
On June 6, 1958, Keith and Peggy Powers were married at the Union Park Baptist Church in Des Moines. Keith taught school in Des Moines until 1963 when Keith took a job as an Industrial Engineer at Univac, in Roseville, MN.
In April 1978 Keith and Peggy moved their family of three children; Mitch, Mitzi, and Michele, to Walker, MN where they had purchased the Jolly Elf Campground. In 1980, Keith and Peggy renamed the property Shores of Leech Lake.
After selling Shores of Leech Lake, in 1996, to his son Mitch (Mara), Keith kept himself busy at the resort making repairs and cleaning the fish house. When he wasn’t splitting wood to heat his home, Keith could be found on the golf course, sharing his love of the game with anyone who would listen. Keith also enjoyed spending time doing puzzles, researching stocks, feeding his birds, and most especially, trapping.
Keith is preceded in death by his parents, Manford and Ruth, and brother, Kenneth. Keith is survived by his loving wife, Peggy, his brother, Don, his children, Mitch (Mara) Loomis, Mitzi (Tom) Hilton, Michele (Dan) Ihrke, 11 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren.
A private family funeral service will be held Tuesday August 15, 2023.
