Kenneth Robert Johnson, Sr., age 81, of Cass Lake, Minnesota began his journey to the spirit world on March 30th, 2026, from Sandstone Healthcare Center, Sandstone, MN. He was born to William and Eva (Hurd) Johnson on November 7, 1944, in Old Agency, MN,
At 18 Ken joined the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Campbell in Kentucky to begin his training as a paratrooper in 1963 and later served in the 101st Screaming Eagles Division. After being honorably discharged from the US Army, Ken owned and operated a Ojibwe Taxi Service for 25 years. He loved nothing more than driving people around, it gave him a deep feeling of being part of the community. He was a graduate of the Leech Lake Tribal College in 2000 with a degree in Environmental Studies. Ken loved him some Taco Bell and a nice cold Pepsi, watching old country westerns and Chuck Norris movies, being in the house that he bought and loved, cheering for his Green Bay Packers, and just hanging out with his kitties. Ken will be remembered, loved, and missed by all who knew him.
Family that Ken joins are his son; Jeremy Robert Shannon, his parents; Eva and William, sister; Shirley Johnson, brothers; Floyd and David Johnson, Herbie Mountain, Sr., and Anten “Sonny” Mountain.
Those he leaves behind to forever cherish his memory are his daughter, Faith (Bob) Kronewitter; son; Kenneth Robert Johnson, Jr., sister; Diane Blakely, brothers; Orville and Ronald Johnson, grandchildren; Lance (Kristy) Johnson, Lucas (Katelin) Raska, Leasha Raska, Diasha Shannon, and Jayden Johnson, several great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A wake for Ken will be held 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7th, with his funeral service to be held on Wednesday, April 8th at 12:00 p.m. all to being held at the Onigum Community Center, Onigum, MN. Pallbearers for Ken will be Bob Kronewitter, Lance Johnson, Lucas Raska, Darius Pierre, David Hall, and Orville Johnson. Honorary pallbearers are all Ken’s family and friends.
