Kenneth William Sobczky,71 of Leawood, KS was born September 7th, 1951, in Omaha NB to Edward and Wilma (Casper) Sobczyk. Ken passed away on July 11th, 2023, doing what he loved, fishing. Ken graduated from Bryan High school in Drake, NE. He was involved in Cross Country, and the baseball team.
His youth was spent at his grandparents’ cabin on the Elkhorn River where they enjoyed fishing and hunting. They eventually ended up at Rush Lake for annual fishing trips.
After graduation Ken went to Capital Business School to learn how to key punch. He was employed by Burlington Northern railroad. Ken retired in 2011 and joined golf and bowling leagues.
Ken met Mary at Burlington Northern, and they were married in 1974. 2 years later they were joined by their wonderful son Brian. The family started fishing together around 1980. They went to Canada twice for family fishing trips, were Ken caught a 33 lb. lake trout and Brian caught a 42 inch Northern the same day.
The family started to fish in Minnesota on Leech Lake, eventually buying a mobile home and settling at Agency Bay Lodge. After Ken’s retirement he and Mary spent the summers there.
Ken loved fishing and doing what he loved at the time of his death.
Ken was a good and loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and well as a Husker fan.
