Lawrence “Hank” Edward Kingbird, “Gimiwan” which means Rain, of the Bear Clan, age 72, of Barnum, MN, began his spiritual journey at his home on Tuesday, October 21, 2025. He was born on March 29, 1953, in Red Lake, MN the son of Clarence Edward Kingbird and Mary Jane (Smith) White.
Hank met and married the love of his life Nadine Kingbird in 1983. He enjoyed working as a equipment operator at the local golf course. When he retired, he continued to raise his great grandchildren. Hank loved going to the casino, attending sporting events, fixing up any car he could get a hold of, singing and powwows. He was also a spiritual advisor who was very active in the Native American culture. But most of all, he loved spending time with all his family. Hank was very family orientated, he welcomed everyone and anyone. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Those Hank joins again in the spirit world are his wife; Nadine Kingbird, parents; Clarence and Mary, uncle; Ringo Smith, sisters; Delores Cloud, Gloria Kliningsmith, Elizabeth Kliningsmith, and Melanie Kingbird, and one brother; Benjamin Kingbird, Sr.
Those left behind to cherish his loving memories are his son’s; Shane (Apryl) Kingbird and Shawn (Angela) Kingbird. Daughters; Linda (John) Whitney, Angela (Charles) Gookin, Gloria Kingbird, Elva (Jalen) Kingbird, and Esperansa Kingbird, brother; Calvin Kingbird, grandchildren; Nino Dorr, Efren Morales-Cruz, Eulogio Lopez, Shawn (Eliana) Kingbird II, Maria Ramos-Smith, Araceli (Dexter) Ramos-Smith and numerous other grand and great-grandchildren.
A wake for Hank will begin at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, October 25, 2025, and will continue until the 12:00 p.m. traditional service on Monday, October 27, 2025, all held at the Redby Community Center in Redby. Spiritual advisor will be Doug Misquadace. Those helping to lay Hank to rest are, Eulogio Lopez, Nino Dorr, Efren Morales-Cruz, Jalen Paulson, Shawn Kingbird II, and Lawrence Lil’Bear. Honorary pallbearers are John Talley, Shawn Kingbird Sr., Shane Kingbird, Corey McCloskey, Sheldon Brown and all those that knew and loved him. Interment will be immediately following the service in the Kingbird Family Burial Grounds, Ponemah, Minnesota.
