Luanne Marie (Weise) Wind

Luanne Marie (Weise) Wind, age 80, of Red Lake, Minnesota journeyed home on Sunday, May 7th, 2023, from the Red Lake IHS Hospital in Red Lake, MN.  Luanne was born on Thursday, November 26th, 1942, in Red Lake, MN to Sophie (Howard) and Simon Weise, Sr.

Luanne had several jobs throughout her years which included maintenance work for the B.I.A., taking out fish and hanging nets.  Luanne finished her working career as the head cook for the Red Lake School District, retiring after 33 years in 2008.  After retiring, she was a substitute cook from 2009-2011.  When she wasn’t working, she liked to travel to pow-wows, listening to pow-wow music and was a huge Warrior fan, attending all the basketball games that she could.  She also liked going to different casinos to play Keno and the slots.  Luanne was known for her fry bread, apple crisp and her many other baked goods.  She always had a smile for all that knew her.

Family that Luanne is reunited with are her husband, Reuben Wind, Jr.; sons, Harold James, and William Jay Wind; infant twin daughters, Margaret and Marianne Wind; parents, Sophie and Simon Weise, Sr.; brother, James Weise, Sr.; sisters, Dorothy Benais and Edith Weise-Beaulieu; granddaughter, Tahnee Rose Wind; special granddaughter, Ariana Butcher, other relatives and friends.

Those left behind to forever cherish her memory are her son, Reuben (Maggie Whitefeather) Wind III of Red Lake; daughter, Ruby (Jonathan Anderson) Wind of Bemidji; brother, Simon (Rose Waybenais) Weise, Jr. of Red Lake; sister, Marion Paddy of Red Lake; grandchildren, Marcus Grauman, Travis Grauman, Trevor Grauman, Tobias Wind, Wilburt Wind, Frank Wind; special granddaughters, Marita and Marissa Wind; 24 great grandchildren, special great grandson, Audric Jourdain and many nieces, nephews, many more family members and friends.

The wake for Luanne will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 11th and continue until her 1:00 p.m. funeral service on Saturday, May 13th all to be held at the New Red Lake Community Center in Red Lake, MN.  Father John Christianson will officiate.  Helping to lay Luanne to rest are Marcus Grauman, Travis Grauman, Trevor Grauman, Tobias Wind, Wilburt Wind, Frank Wind, Sr., Clayton Cook, and Todd Barrett.  Her honorary pallbearers are Becky Weise, Jamie Weise, Georgianna Spears, Jane Benais, Lance Hart, Rita Weise, Dan Hart, Fabian Cook, John McGraw, Jonathan Anderson, Gerald Wind, James Weise, Jr., Noding Wind Dean Paddy, Sharon Paddy, Marion Paddy and Simon Weise, Jr.  Interment will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery at Red Lake, MN following her Saturday service.
