Lucy Jane Barrett

Lucy Jane Barrett, Miskwananiisiik-Ikwe, which means Red Tailed Hawk Woman, age 38, passed away on Monday, November 22nd, 2021, at Cass Lake IHS in Cass Lake, MN.

Lucy was born on April 12th, 1983, in Red Lake, MN to Louis Barrett, Sr. and Connie Chaboyea, she was raised in Red Lake and attended school at Red Lake High and Riverside Indian School in Anadarko, Oklahoma.

Lucy loved to spend time with her children, grandchildren, family, and friends. She liked to take a cruise to Cedar Lakes to play her favorite game, “China Shores”. She never went a day without her scratchies or her caramel frappes. She was known for helping whoever she could. She loved to cook and invite people over to eat.

Lucy is survived by her mother, Connie Chaboyea; father, Louis Barrett Sr.; sons, Dominic Cook, John Henry Barrett, Jarvis King, Jr., Courtney Whitefeather; daughters, Lacy Sayers (Chad), Macy (Chandler) Sayers, Jessleigh King; grandmother, Lorraine Chaboyea; siblings, Bill Chaboyea, Lori (Al) Beaulieu, Clarence Barrett, Rhiannon (Tim) Sumner, Sonnie (Delwyn) Barrett, and Kiiyalan Lussier; 3 grandchildren whom she loved so much, grandsons; Melikai Sayers and Markel Lussier; and granddaughter, “Grandmas tiny turtle” Amarah May.

Lucy is preceded in death by her grandfathers, David Chaboyea and John Henry Barrett; grandmother, Cleona Barrett, brother, Louis Barrett Jr.; and son, Jacy Barrett.

A traditional wake for Lucy will begin on Thursday, November 25th, 2021, at 3:00 p.m. and continue until her traditional service on Saturday, November 27th, 2021, at 12:00 p.m. all held at Red Lake Community Center in Red Lake, MN with Pastor Bryant Lavallie officiating. Those helping to lay Lucy to rest will be Craig Roy, Jerrick DeMarris, Del English, Clarence Barrett, Bill Chaboyea, Marcus Beaulieu, Tre Graves, Marvin Schoenborn Sr., Chandler May, Hunter Barrett, Ricky Chaboyea, Vincent Johns, and K.J. Needham. Honorary pallbearers are Mariah Needham, Dreanna Manypenny, Krissy Defoe, Tiffany Defoe, Anne Beaulieu, Fabe Cloud, Chelsie Johns, Farrah Nelson, Kelly Defoe, Amber Sayers, Dave Staples, Ashley Brun, Leah Cook, and Janelle Clark.
