Lynnette Sanders Obituary

Lynnette Lee Sanders, also known as “Nettie or Granny” of the Leech Lake band of Ojibwe Bear Clan, age 79, of Minneapolis, MN began her spiritual journey on Sunday, February 1, 2026. She was born on August 21, 1946, the daughter of Walter and Josephine (Bongo) Sanders.

Lynnette grew up in Walker, Minnesota and graduated from Walker High School in 1963. Following graduation, she moved to Minneapolis where she attended Rasmusson College and earned an Associates of Arts degree. She began her career working as an administrative assistant in Minneapolis. Lynnette later relocated to Colorado where she was employed as a nurse’s assistant at a local hospital. She also worked as a legal secretary for Mobil Oil in Denver. She eventually returned to Walker and worked for the Walker school district as an assistant coordinator for the Johnson O’Malley program(JOM). Lynnette later settled again in Minneapolis where she worked in custodial maintenance at the Minneapolis Public Library until her retirement in 2012. She remained in Minneapolis until her passing. Lynnette enjoyed bowling, playing bingo, netting, ricing, helping Daddy logging, working on cars, softball, hunting, reading, watching Monk and hanging out with her grandkids. She loved spending her precious time with her family and friends. A great relative and friend to everyone. The family that Lynnette joins again are her parents, Walter and Josephine; brothers, Walter (Sonny) Sanders, Jr., Lonnie (Wee-Sug) Sanders, Lew Vern (Stormie) Sanders; sister, Judy Ann Ryan; grandparents, William and Susie Sanders and John and Maggie (Johnson) Bongo; grand daughter, Roselyn Rain Stewart, also many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Those she leaves behind to cherish her memory are her ex-husband Roosevelt (Papa Rose) Stewart Sr, daughter, Frances Sanders of Minneapolis; sons, Vincent Sanders of Brooklyn Park and Roosevelt Ray Stewart of Brooklyn Center; sisters, Doris June Eaglin of Colorado, Barbara Sanders of Eveleth, and Yvonne Armstrong-Sanders of Walker; grandchildren, Alix, Sammy, Aryka, Isabelle M, Payton, Olivia, Keenan, Alaysia, Taelon, Alida, Maya, Kobe Dale, and Shuyler (Olivia) Brooke; great grandchildren, Camille, Brooklynn, I’zir, Isabelle, Alora and Delilah.

Funeral services for Lynnette will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 14, 2026, with visitation one hour prior to the service all held at Calvary Evangelical Free Church in Walker, MN. Pastor Mark Widman will officiate. Honorary pallbearers will be James Eaglin III, Wayne Eaglin, Vance Eaglin, Uhuru Hoosman, Nathaniel Armstrong, Mykell Engle, Sonny Villegas, Mason Villegas, and Ronald (B.J.) Woods. Active pallbearers will be Sammy Sanders-Dawkins, L.C. Wesley Armstrong, Matthew Armstrong, Johnny Ryan, Taelon Stewart, Keenan Stewart, and Sharvari Hoosman. Interment will be held in the Evergreen Cemetery in Walker, MN following the service at the church. The family requests that any donations considered go to https://gofund.me/b0dcd645b.
