Makhoa James Martin

Makhoa James Martin, “Naawigaabaw” meaning stands in the middle of both worlds, age 19, of the Marten Clan and of Cass Lake, MN started his journey to the spirit world on Saturday, May 14, 2022, at the Cass Lake IHS. He was born in Bemidji, MN on October 8, 2002, the son of Tanya Martin and Jeremy Jones.

Makhoa grew up in the Cass Lake and Bemidji area, he moved some but always returned to where his family was. He loved his family and took special care of the children and the elders in his large family. He loved to spend time with his many siblings, nieces, and nephews. He enjoyed watching the UFC and Boxing matches on T.V. with his dad and uncles. He always looked forward to going fishing. He finished high school early, at age 16, so he could start serious training for boxing. He was always training at the gym or hitting the large bag at home. He liked to play video games and he was the best taco cook in the family! He was a respectful and loving young man who was easy to make friends. He always had a listening ear, or a motivational pep talk, he was a very supportive young man. Makhoa had a smile and laugh that was contagious, he lit up every room he entered, and will be missed dearly by all who knew him.

Makhoa is greeted in the spirit world by his grandma, Roxy; uncles, Franklin “Doc”, Mike, and Todd; great grandma, Florence Martin; aunt, Kathy; special nephew, Antoine; and best friends, James and Nathanial.

Those left behind to cherish the memory of Makhoa are his mom, Tanya Martin; dad, Charles Croaker; pops, Jeremy (MaryJane) Jones; brothers, Choney, Charles III, Cal-El, Kayne, Darwin, Jeremy, Aiden, Archie, Tommy; sisters, Taija, Tanaya, Amani, Florence, Aeryn Rose, Nahani, Julia, Aiyanna, Natalia; grandparents, Tim, Pam, Sharlene, and Charles, Sr.; great grandma, Marcella; special aunts, Big Paula and Tasha; special uncle, Richard, Sr.; special brothers, Eddie, Jr. and Joe; special sister, Nessa; loving dog, Makoons; all his special nieces and nephews, numerous other family members and friends.

A two-night wake for Makhoa will begin Friday, May 20, 2022, at 7:00 p.m. and continue until his Sunday, May 22, 2022, 1:00 p.m. service, all to be held at the Veteran’s Memorial Building in Cass Lake, MN. Pastor Vincent Roy will officiate. Those helping to lay Makhoa to rest will be Devin, Eddie, Jr., Gavin, Richard, Jay, AJ, Wade, and Todd. Alternates will be Evan, Joe, Josh, and Starson. Honorary pallbearers are all Makhoa’s family and friends. Interment will follow his Sunday service and be in the LaRose Family Cemetery in Cass Lake, MN.
