Martin "Marty" Fred Anderson

Martin “Marty” Fred Anderson, Jr. passed away June 26, 2023, surrounded by his loving family at home.  He was born June 24th, 1941, in Miami, FL, the son of Hattie (Mebold) and Martin Anderson, Sr.

From Miami, the Anderson family settled in the Duluth, MN area, where Marty spent his childhood and grade school years. In 1956, the family moved to New York Mills, MN, where Martin graduated from New York Mills High School in 1959.

Martin married his high school sweetheart, Edith “Edie” (Cavalier) in November 1958. Marty and Edie soon began growing their family and building their life together. They moved from Mills back to the Duluth area where Marty attended Salter Electrical School and an apprenticeship to become an electrician. During these years, the family grew by 4 children. In 1970, Marty left his career as an electrician to pursue his dream of becoming a farmer. He moved his young family to a 200-acre farm in Bertha, MN, where he built a successful dairy operation. In 1973 the family grew by 2 more with the birth of their twins. Martin and Edith farmed until 1993. They sold the farm and semi-retired to their lake home on Leaf Lake in Henning, MN.

In 1994, Martin partnered with his nephew, Jeff Anderson, to purchase Grand Vu Lodge on Leach Lake in Walker, MN. Martin enjoyed resort ownership until his retirement in 2001. He then purchased his final homestead in rural Walker, where he enjoyed his retirement with his ever-growing family, traveled America, visited friends he made over the years, and built a comfy place to call home. Marty enjoyed reading, gardening, fixing cars, and the car club. He continued his love of knowledge from history to” how it was made”. Marty knew something about everything, and he never stopped learning and teaching.

Marty is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Edie; daughters, Diane Prado of Palm Coast, FL, Michelle (Josh) May of Longville, MN, Melissa (Dale) Carpiaux of Green Bay, WI; sons, Lance Anderson and Craig Anderson, both of Walker; sister, Judy (Harley) Melin of Walker, brothers, Karl Ando of Japan, Rodger (June) Klosowsky of Saginaw, MN, and Bruce Klosowsky of Andover, MN; 17 grandchildren, Nichole, Jacob, Jackie, Matthew, Jesse, Naomi, Carly, Morgan, Alex, Erica, Marty, Sara, Austin, Colin, Levi, Nyah, Jake; 18 great-grandchildren; 1 great great-grandson; numerous nieces and nephews.

Marty is preceded in death by his parents, Hattie and Martin Sr.; brothers, Freddy and Warren Anderson; sisters, infant Crissy Anderson, and Joanie Antonson; loving son, Troy Anderson; and grandson, Travis Anderson.

Funeral service for Marty will be Wednesday, July 5, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. with a one-hour visitation prior to services, all to be held at Hope Lutheran Church in Walker, MN.  Pastor Dave Smith will officiate. Pallbearers are Marty’s grandsons, Jesse Anderson, Jacob Prado, Austin Pihlstrom, Alex Roesler, Colin Pihlstrom, Levi Jenrette, Marty Roesler, and Jake Jenrette. A luncheon will follow services in the Fellowship Hall at Hope Lutheran Church. Interment will be Thursday, July 6, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. in the St. Lawrence Catholic Cemetery in Perham, MN.
