Mary Cecelia Beckett

Mary Cecelia Beckett, age 89, went home to her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, March 30th, 2022, from her home in Cass Lake, Minnesota.  She was born in White Earth, MN on December 29th, 1932, one of seven children born to Jeanetta (Ortley) and Samuel Jones, Sr.

Mary was born and raised in Ponsford, MN until she attended the Flandreau Indian School.  Later in her life, Mary moved to California where she met and married Donald Beckett.  They would later move back to Minnesota.  Mary was a very caring and generous person who would help anyone if she could.  She loved parades, liked to play bingo, playing at the casino, and visiting with her family and friends.

Family that Mary reunites with are her parents, Jeanetta and Sam Jones, Sr.; sisters, Delphine, Fran, Theresa, and Dorothy; brothers, Sam Jr., and Steve; grandson, Leroy; and many other family members.

She leaves behind her children, Donna Cree, and Royce (Virginia Bunker) Beckett both of Cass Lake; special grandson, who she raised, Matthew Beckett, Sr.; special friend, Eugene “Dopey” Budreau; nine more grandchildren, 17 great grandbabies and numerous nieces, nephews, and relatives.

Mary’s family would like to send a special “Thank you” to Virginia Bunker for her compassion and continuous care of Mary, especially over the last few months.

The wake for Mary will begin at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 2nd and continue until her 10:00 a.m. Memorial Mass on Monday, April 4th all being held at the White Earth Family Center in Cass Lake, MN.  Father Matthew Cobb will officiate.  Mary’s honorary pallbearers are all her family and friends.  Per Mary’s wishes, her cremains will be cared for by her family.
