Mary Ann Briseno, age 70, of Sauk Centre, MN began her spiritual journey on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at the Sanford Medical Center in Fargo with her family by her side. She was born on November 4, 1954, in Cass Lake, MN, the daughter of Matthew Kangas and Beulah (Lyons) Kangas.
Mary was such a kind, giving person who liked to make people laugh with her funny personality. She enjoyed spending time with grandchildren and great grandchildren teaching them all her baking skills. Mary liked going to garage sales, riding around in the car, but most of all going to Dairy Queen for her strawberry malts. She also enjoyed doing bead work, working on puzzles and watching National Geographic. Mary will be lovingly missed by all her family and friends.
The family that Mary joins again are her parents, Matthew and Beulah; daughter, Jessica Hernandez-Briseno; two infant sons, Matthew and Jose Briseno; significant other, Darren Benais; brother, Robert Kangas and two nephews, Francis Kangas, Jr. and Timothy McKee, Jr.
Those she leaves behind to cherish her memory are her daughter, Melissa (Alejandro) Briseno; son, Felix (Andrea) Briseno, Jr.; step children, Sondra and Brandon Murray; brothers, Matthew Kangas and Francis Kangas, Sr.; sisters, Cheryl, Bernadine and Theresa Kangas; grandchildren Mariah (Corey) Drouillard, Alexis Briseno, Danielle (James) Canelo, Santos Canelo, Jose Briseno, Rosario (Ulyses) Briseno, Avel Hernandez and Chanel Hernandez; eight great grandchildren, other nieces and nephews.
A wake for Mary will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 17, 2025, and continue until her 10:00 a.m. service on Sunday, October 19, 2025, all held at the Mission Community Center in Cass Lake. Pallbearers for Mary will be Jose Briseno-Hernandez, Corey Drouillard, David Kangas, Chris Kangas, Charles Stone and James Gray. Alternate pallbearers are Avel Hernandez and Christopher Kangas. Honorary pallbearers will be Cheryl Kangas, Bernadine Kangas, Theresa Kangas, all her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, Landon, Talon, Louella Drouillard, Koda, Valorie, and Violet Gray, and Ulyses Briseno-Flores.
